Mathis officially added to coaching staff / Pappa to Seattle

After a week of speculation, it's now official. Clint Mathis has been added as an assistant coach. The former US International, World Cup veteran, and MLS star has been with the club all week in Ave Maria, Florida but an announcement was withheld as his contract was being finalized.

Mathis' appointment completes Frank Yallop's full time game day coaching staff.

The Fire's first competitive match of 2014 will take place on Sunday at 10am. A contest against Florida Gulf Coast University will be streamed live at Chicago-Fire.com.

Pappa in Rave Green

As expected Marco Pappa has been claimed via allocation by the Seattle Sounders FC making a move back to Chicago even more unlikely. Pappa has said all along he would have preferred to return to the Fire but Seattle's asking price along with Pappa's salary made a homecoming a long shot from the start.

  • We probably had a big part in Seattle being able to get pappa withh them dumping those two salaries to us...

  • This piece theorizes that Pappa can be Seattle's new playmaker in place of Mauro Rosales......

    Good luck with that.

  • In reply to Guillermo Rivera:

I'll second that. A playmaker has to share the ball with his teammates.

Guillermo I see that Razvan Rat was released by West Ham. Ive seen him play and think he would good as our Right Back!!

  • In reply to Keith Woller:

They're probably set with right backs now with Palmer, Franco, Kinney, and Ward all vying for spots.

If they're bringing in an international worth a few dollars it's going to need to be an impact midfielder or forward.

  • Seattle invented Marco Pappa

  • Mike Magee has food poisoning and won't dress for Korea. how unlucky is that?

  • In reply to Celt:

    That's brutal.
