USOC match day - Fire v Charlotte Eagles

Catch the live stream beginning at 6pm and chime in as the Fire face USL side Charlotte in the third round of the US Open Cup. The Eagles currently sit in 8th place in third division USL-Pro with a 3-1-4 record. Two USL-Pro clubs were victorious over MLS sides last night so this game shouldn't be considered a lock. Orlando City defeated Colorado 3-1 and the Charleston Battery bested San Jose 1-0.

Should the Fire win, they will face the winner of tonight's Dayton Dutch Lions v Columbus Crew match. USOC play resumes on June 12. Expect Frank Klopas to field a strong line-up as the first team has traveled to Charlotte for this match. Sean Johnson is with the USMNT so he is not available.

Friedrich back in Germany

The Fire announced today that centerback Arne Friedrich is returning to Germany to receive further treatment on his ailing hip. Friedrich is not expected to return to Chicago until July 1.  As of right now he's still hopeful that he can return to the field this season if the injury can be remedied.

2-7-2 team. I dont think any lineup going in tonight will be considered a strong lineup.

I have to say, I am completely enjoying the play by play and color, all by one guy. lol.

  • In reply to Kao Xiong:

Brendan Hannan is pretty entertaining on play by play.

Is Rolfe left footed? Because that was an amazing left footed shot on 58. I hope he's back.

  • In reply to Kao Xiong:

Naturally right footed. Way too much quality to continue to struggle like he has early this season.

If Rolfe didn't disappear so much in games this year. I have to say, Magee up top with Rolfe works. I think Nyarko is almost as good, however their link up play leaves me wanting at times. Chris and Patrick just don't seem to work, seems like they just aren't on the same page, where as Magee seems to have an idea of what Chris is always looking for. Brendan said it on the live cast, "almost better than a first date." I know this is against a USL side, but it was good live experience. This kind of movement would have worked against any MLS club.

  • In reply to waam:

Charlotte may not have been as tough as an MLS opponent, but they certainly wanted to win this match. In some ways, it actually might have been better for the Rolfe - Magee pairing to get a run-out in a match like this where they could build their communication under less pressure.

  • Nice for Magee to get his first goal for the Fire, there's a good chance he will get his first goal at home on Sunday too.
