Gulley loan to Atlanta official

The Fire have announced that forward Kellen Gulley has been loaned to the NASL's Atlanta Silverbacks. The move gives Gulley, the Fire's second Homegrown Player signing an opportunity to earn more playing time than he otherwise would via Fire Reserve and first team matches. While he's yet to distinguish himself against MLS competition in training he stands more of a chance to develop if he can find some success in the second division NASL.

Gulley joined Atlanta for preseason training on March 11.

  • If he's only training with the Fire, when has he tested himself against MLS competition?

  • I am going to carp unreasonably here.

Why do other teams have homegrown players step right into the first team? We have a PDL team that clearly attracts a lot of talented players, judging by how many go on to play at other MLS teams. Why can't we get more of them into our MLS squad? Is the academy system just not locating and developing talent? Is the PDL side just poaching players from other systems?

Pineda has still not really broken into the first team (yes, I know there are injury concerns there), and Gulley is off to Atlanta. Where are the impact players like LA has signed (eg McBean)? Philly (McInerny?)? DC (Hamid, Najar)? NY (Lade, Agudelo)?

When the results go south, the failings at all levels get more scrutiny.

  • In reply to Modibo:

Pineda can play. He'll have a chance to contribute at some point soon. It's easy to forget he just turned 20 a few weeks ago.

  • In reply to Modibo:

The PDL team was poaching players from other systems, but they recently changed philosophy to focus on players the Fire have homegrown rights to. If a player for the PDL isn't already a Fire homegrown, they go to the Superdraft instead. However, Austin Berry is a Fire PDL who we were able to draft.

  • Updated injury list. All listed as questionable.....

    Patrick Nyarko-- Right Hamstring Tightness
    Dilly Duka-- Right Hamstring Tightness
    Alex-- Right Calf Contusion
    Michael Videira-- Concussion Symptoms
    Steven Kinney-- Right Quad Tightness

  • So Mr. Bone will get his first start? I guess Rofle will play on the wing again.

  • In reply to Adam25:

We may see Atouba get a start. Lindpere can also move outside with either Paladini or Pause getting a look in the middle. Rolfe is best used as an underneath forward imo.

  • I think Atouba gets the start over Bone. Preseason's no solid indicator, but the guy was putting in more goals than anyone else. If they want to score, seems the kid would at least get a run out in a game w/ Nyarko down to see what he's got.

No Friedrich this weekend, per training notes from today's session.

  • I'm looking forward to this Art of Futbol exhibit......

I think i will go to this one!

  • In reply to Adam25:

It was announced about a month ago. It's basically a paid vacation for a bunch of Euro stars to come over and get a run out during their break. It's a nice chance to see some of the best players in the world on the field if you want to watch them play at about 1/4 speed. I believe the event has a connection to a charity so there's that.
