  • Injuries continue to be an issue. Gonzalo Segares is a late scratch after suffering a right hamstring injury at training on Friday.

  • Can't even score from the spot...

  • Sigh ...

  • Hope?

  • Finally! 3 goals! A win! And Mr. Invisible (Maicon Santos) suddenly appears! Is the rust beginning to fall off this team?

A nice cameo performance from Hunter Jumper.

  • Santos doesn't seem to clam up in front of the net, it seems like everyone else on our side does. 2 goals in one game with a little over 20 minutes of playing time is pretty good. Throughout the entire game before his entrance it seemed like guys would turn to stone when an opportunity presented itself, his ability to stay calm and finish today was very relieving.

  • What a huge burden lifted.

  • 8th place vs.10th place. Should I be excited and filled with hope because the Fire won? (sigh)

  • In reply to FrontRow:

Sure. Why not. Might be your best chance this season. Go for it. :)

  • In reply to FrontRow:

A result against Houston and a win against Columbus would make me feel like I can be hopeful again. One win doesn't erase the the awful start of the season but it is the start of what will.

  • Yes, I'm relieved. I should be after our (predicted) failure v Chivas. Happy to see one of the off-season signings show that he has the ability to single-handedly match our season goal total in one game (I'm counting Paladini's earlier goal - if we only count goals prior to this game of course then Santos scored double our season total).

I'll get excited when we get another win before we reach the 10 game mark. And no more humiliating shutouts to lower division sides.

And injuries remain a concern. If we have so many players out now, when they're all supposed to be well-rested, what can we expect in, say, July? September? Is there something in the water? Our fitness regime? What's going on?

  • The team actually looked to make some passes to each other at different times this game. Pause looked great today. Jeff L looked awful. He couldnt make a pass to anyone all game. He would be good to have on the field when we are down a man, have a lead and there are 5 minutes left. Thats when we would need him to clear the ball as far as he can because thats all he has offered all season. Paladini looked good. MacDonald looked pretty good. He was running past people and looking dangerous at times. Jumper was a nice addition to the team and Berry is a great no nonsense defender. This was a good performance and I hope it wasnt a one off thing.

  • So Bone got a cameo. Honestly, I did not recognize him with his Woody Woodpecker haircut. Can't play that guy again until he gets a new haircut.

  • I disagree, I thought Jeff L. was great and the midfield was active and aggressive; it was messy at times but the effort was outstanding. Can't say enough good things about Paladini - he had a great game and earned another start. This game was the first indication of noticeable improvement. Congratulations Fire.

  • I've always liked Paladini's work. I'll never forget last year when he got Beckermann to Red Card himself. And he just keeps getting better!

I also have to say that Wells Thompson deserves a bit more credit than he gets. He's playing out of his natural position and it shows sometimes, but he plays full tilt. A shit-load of hustle in that guy!

I had a feeling this was going to happen with Pause back in the lineup. With Logan anchoring the team then all of the new additions were able (for the most part) to play their intended roles and we finally start to see a glimpse of what Frank was assembling over the winter.

I'm still not convinced that Mac can score, but watching someone in a fire jersey flick in 2 creative goals instead of shanking from 9 yards away is a welcome change. Hopefully Santos can continue to show that form in future games.

I can only imagine what it'll be like to be injury free and have Nyarko, Arne, and Segares in that lineup.

I think Thompson was terrible, why not play Kinney there.

I talked for a minute with Bakary Sounare yesterday at the match.
When I asked him why he was there he just smiled. We could sure use him.

  • Where's G? Hope all the excitement wasn't too much for him!

  • In reply to Arklow:

Busy night, but the usual post game stuff is up now.
