CJ Brown - Ring of Fire Inductee 2012

It was just a matter of time.

The Fire announced today that CJ Brown, the club's all-time leader in games and minutes played will be inducted into the Ring of Fire this season.  The induction ceremony will take place at half-time of the May 9 match against Brown's current team Real Salt Lake.

"It's truly a big honor.  I'm honored to be a part of it.  It's emotional, it's rewarding and there are a lot of different feelings I have for this," said Brown this afternoon.  "Everyone I played with has played a role in me being (inducted) into the Ring of Fire.  It's one of the highest honors in my career."

Good to hear about C. J Brown.
Any insider News on when the Fire will
    announce their Television schedule?
I would like to see Brandan Hannan used as the Play by Play Announcer. He is so much better than what we had last year.
Suggest to the Fire Management to do live streams using Hannan. He adds so much to the broadcasts.

  • In reply to Juergen:

I agree 100% (on all points).

  • In reply to Krasov:

I don't mind Dan Kelly's call at all. Last year was only his second season on soccer pbp and he did improve on 2010.
I'd imagine Hannan will continue to do pbp for the upcoming Carolina Cup live streams.

  • In reply to Guillermo Rivera:

Dan Kelly was boring did not add life to
the Broadcasts. "Better suited for Golf."
Brandan Hannan adds excitement in his Play by Play Broadcasts similar to that of European and south American announcers.
They make listening exciting. Thats what
we need dynamic announcers that add excitement. What we had last year was plain boring. Now is the time to liven things up and take things to the next level.

  • In reply to Juergen:

I'm not a fan of Kelly either. Just something about his broadcast. How he almost always calls them the "Chicago Fire" and not just the "Fire". Or how he uses a players first and last name so often. I almost get the feeling that he purposely doesn't want to come off as a "homer". I get it ... but instead he sounds too cold, too detached. I say give Brandan a shot.

  • In reply to Lewis26:

Dan Kelly's broadcast voice is contrived. Its not real because he doesn't understand soccer at all. He's a hockey guy. Maybe if he spoke in his regular voice instead of his performance voice he would be better. He seems to overhype everything. I think he is a nice guy, but soccer is not his game. He tries to do pbp like hockey. It just doesn't translate. Soccer is a discussion. There is just something about Dan Kelly's fake enthusiasm which at times seems misplaced.

  • In reply to Krasov:

    Contrived ... that's a great description!!

His voice does give off an "I'm excited because I'm told I should be" rather than "I'm excited because I watching a good game".

Shame on the Fire Brass that CJ Brown is not with the Chicago-Fire in some capacity.
He obviously has something to offer that is why he is with Real Salt Lake.
Somebody needs to talk to Andrew Hauptman about the benefits of Streaming Streaming the Pre Season Games with Brandan Hannon doing the Play by Play.

  • Fire will carry live audio pbp of the match against the Portland Timbers today at 1pm.

  • Former Chicago Fire forward Gaston Puerari signed with Defensor Sporting (Uruguayan Primera Division).
