The Fire, MLS, and.....Lego?

Thanks to Fire team writer Jeff Crandall for pointing out this, um gem.  The video brings new meaning to the term "soccer nerd".

For some reason Patrick Nyarko gets beat down but they've got the Fire theme song blaring after every goal accompanied by fancy graphics.  There's even a must see (SPOILER ALERT!) man of the match acceptance speech from "Daniel Paladini" that credits Sparky of all people, er canines.

Hopefully, someone bought these guys a copy of FIFA '12 for Christmas.

  • holy fuck, the offseason is LOOOOOOOOOOONG

  • In reply to giaco:

    LOL! You said it Giaco!

  • In reply to Modibo:

    Indeed. ;)

  • Straight from his own Twitter, Krzysztof Krol citing a return to MLS.

  • In reply to Jeff Krause:

Wouldn't mind him coming back as back up for sega. Although I thought Frank was looking for a FW and a CM? Are we going to get disappointed this year again?

  • In reply to penapirata:

When I talked to Frank last day of training, he said he wanted to get some depth at LB as well. I would venture a guess that finding a LB is probably 3rd on the list, and that their efforts are going towards a FW and CM.

Related: Hot Time is reporting that CA striker Vicente Sanchez has signed with an MLS club, although who is yet a mystery. Would be interested in seeing him come to Chicago, since Frank's looking for another forward, and there's a club connection between the Fire and CA.

  • In reply to Jeff Krause:

Interesting. Sanchez has also been linked with a move to Cruz Azul.

  • As an aside, he's recently been in Chicago, however said something a few days go about going to Toronto, so my guess it it's one of those two, just from the internetz.

  • The toronto guys seem to think he is coming there, and I think he could be in chicago because isn't his wife a native of chicago?

  • In reply to lijien:

Yeah, he and Patricia spent New Year's here. Not sure when he's heading out of town, but that's the 2nd or 3rd time he's been here this year.

  • So new year anything new besides rumors?

  • In reply to penapirata:

Nothing new yet but we should have the full MLS schedule this week....at least I'm hoping we will.

  • In reply to Guillermo Rivera:

I thought that was supposed to be released mid december?

  • In reply to penapirata:

It is still MLS......if they release it this week it should be considered two months early. ;)

  • I do not know about you guys but I am getting a strange feeling that this year might be a repeat of last year. What really scares me are statements about Javier finding talent in South America. Has anyone wondered what kind of soccer background Olfd Javier has please check it out. If you find something significant please post.

  • In reply to brokerjohn:

Leon was the CEO at Chivas USA from 2004 to 2007. As far as actual "scouting" goes I think Mike Jeffries actually does more of that than Leon does. It seems to me they have employed more of a collective scouting effort in the last two seasons with Klopas, Leon, and Jeffries all looking at players and comparing notes. Klopas may have less of a role as the season nears and he assumes more of the coaching duties.

  • In reply to Guillermo Rivera:

i actually have to agree with brokerjohn. i get that strange feeling too that this season might be a repeat of last year. personally i just think that andrew is not the best owner for this team. to me he just doesn't seem very passionate about this club, imo.

  • Article posted today linking Spanish midfielder Abraham to a possible move to the Fire.

    http://www.fichajes.net/noticias/de-alcorcon-chicago-20120102.html

  • Thanks Jeff but for those of us who don't Speak Spanish the article doesn't mean much. Hopefully Guillermo can give us a quick English recap.
I am surprised the Fire let Diego Chaves leave without offering him something. Besides being a forward he can also play midfield..

  • I don't speak Spanish either, but I opened the article w/ Google Chrome, then allowed Chrome to translate it when Google Translate offered to do so. :)

The article isn't overtly informative, but spoke of Klopas' trip to Spain and scouting Abraham while there. If the Fire are indeed talking to him, I believe he'd fit the box-to-box midfielder Klopas said he wanted to bring in.

  • In reply to Jeff Krause:

Yep....the article doesn't have much new information......

"The coach of the Chicago Fire has spent time in Spain recently looking for players and Abraham, a player for Alcorcon, liked the American coach very much indicating that he could leave the Spanish league to begin a venture in MLS.
Abraham's play in midfield has caught the attention of the Chicago Fire who are ready to spend the money for his services.
At 26 years old, Abraham has played for many different clubs including Terrassa, Barcelona, Cadiz, Nastic, Ponferradina, and Alcorcon. Now he may start a new stage in his life/career playing in MLS."

He does seem to be the type of midfielder Klopas is looking for.

  • when you get a chance to speak to frank, could you ask him why sean john was the only player to train across the pond this off season? and why he did not try to send more players over to other clubs he may have connections with(ie madrid)?

  • In reply to penapirata:

There was some talk last month about getting Nyarko and Pappa some training time overseas but it never materialized. I'll ask him.

  • sorry to beat this to death this offseason, but do you think it'd be fair to assume that a new TD won't be appointed this offseason considering the superdraft is only about 10 days away? i find this situation very odd. you would never ever see any other big league club in town let their GM become their head coach and then just not replace the GM. it makes the team look like a mickey mouse operation, which i'm afraid it is.

  • In reply to Drew:

I wasn't expecting a new "technical director" to be brought in judging from the answers offered at the Klopas press conference. There was an indication that another hire would be made to fill the personnel void created by Klopas' full time jump into coaching however.

It's a question on the top of my list of queries.

  • Wilman Conde claims he is considering options to play for Millonarios or MLS.........

    http://www.mlssoccer.com/es/news/article/2012/01/03/wilman-conde-entre-millonarios-en-colombia-o-la-mls

"I had some great moments in Chicago, I played in three conference finals and two all star games and I had teammates that were very good on a personal and sporting (playing) level."
"When you leave a team where you have friends and you fail to win a championship, and I left with a good image, you always want to return and complete that championship run. So that's always been a debt or a dream that I want to complete," said Conde.

  • In reply to Guillermo Rivera:

    Honestly.....I hope not.

  • In reply to Jeff Krause:

me neither. been there, done that.

  • also could you ask Frank if he plans on having a close to completed roster by the time training camp starts? and why is it taking so long to re-sign pardo?

  • In reply to penapirata:

The MLS transfer window doesn't open until training camp starts, so it's likely there will be signings after camp opens.

  • if it doesn't open until training camp starts, then why does it seem that almost all the other teams in the league are signing new players?

on a side note whats gargan's status?

  • In reply to penapirata:

Gargan's out of contract....expect him to be re-signed.

  • They have a better front office?
