Husidic, Conway, Dufty Exit

The Fire announced today that Baggio Husidic, Jon Conway, and Alec Dufty will not have their options exercised and will be made available in the MLS Re-Entry draft on December 5 and 12.

The exit of Conway and Dufty leaves the Fire with no back-up goalkeeper for Sean Johnson currently on the first team roster.  Husidic, a second round draft pick in 2009 and UIC product scored 5 goals over three seasons with the Fire.

  • Sporting KC has acquired Paolo Nagmura from Chivas USA in exchange for the #5 draft pick that they acquired from Chivas last week in exchange for Ryan Smith.

MLS roster trades aren't very newsworthy are they?

  • Portland has not renewed their option on Lowry...bring him back?

  • In reply to DerSting:

They weren't very high on him for some reason.

  • Klopas shoots down talk of any contact with FC Twente regarding Marco Pappa..........

  • In reply to Guillermo Rivera:

So we may lose another player for nothing?

  • In reply to penapirata:

It's still early. We'll see what happens in January. If he stays then they have to look at locking him up for additional years because it would make no sense to let him walk after 2012 with nothing to show for it ala Rolfe.

  • Who's in line behind Conway? Whoever it is will not be soaking up Sean John's years of experience. Guillermo, any rumors out there about other GK prospects?

  • In reply to Modibo:

Haven't heard anything yet. Johnson will be training overseas this offseason (stayed tuned on that) but a training stint is a different situation from a trial. Either way they need to find a back up with some experience. No names have popped up yet though.

  • I was hoping Husidic only had a sort of a sophomore slump. But it seems thats not how its shaking out. GR- how much of his situation was mental vs physical? Did his sitting for Videra and Paladini kill his confidence.... Or did he sit b/c the others who play his spot were physically better?
I think its mental. I think the missed goal in the Man U game was an example, maybe he put too much pressure on himself, couldnt think (or shoot) straight.
Conway n Dufty might be nice enogh people but neither was an upgrade over Dykstra.

  • In reply to ChrisConnolly:

I think it just boiled down to Paladini being a better fit for what they wanted to do than Husidic was. If I had to pick between the two I'd probably go with Paladini as well. His $124k guaranteed compensation this past season unfortunately made him too expensive an option for a back up central mid with not much pace. I think he can play in MLS so he should be able to find a home...just not at 124K.

You can put Conway, Dufty, and Dykstra in the same category. You would think they could find a better back up option somewhere.

  • I think finding a quality backup GK isa top priority since Johnson could miss games in the beginning for qualifying and for the actual Olympics.
