Fire To Participate In Carolina Cup Challenge

For the second consecutive pre-season the Fire will participate in the Carolina Cup Challenge hosted by USL's Charleston Battery.

Matches will be played at Blackbaud Stadium in Charleston, SC between February 25 and March 4.  DC United and another yet to be named MLS side will also participate.

The Fire have also faced the Battery in US Open Cup competition.  Speaking of which, there will be some changes made to the USOC tournament in 2012.  All 16 US based MLS teams will automatically participate foregoing the qualifying rounds of seasons past.  There are also apparently changes coming regarding the schedule and timing of tournament matches so that fixture congestion problems are more easily dealt with in late summer.  No word yet on proposed changes to the "bid" process for hosting matches but that is also under consideration.

That would be a good thing. Need to get Gulley some time on the pitch this winter before camp.
