2012 Home Opener Set for March 24

The Fire will open the 2012 home season at Toyota Park on Saturday, March 24.  The upcoming season will begin on March 10 so it's possible that Chicago will start the campaign with two road matches leading up to the home opener.  Start times and opponents have yet to be finalized.

As the league still hopes to release the full schedule this December (months earlier than supporters are accustomed to) the rest of the clubs in MLS also have home opening dates set:

March 10: Colorado, DC, Los Angeles, San Jose, Seattle, Vancouver

March 11 : Chivas, FC Dallas

March 12: Portland

March 17: Sporting KC, Montreal, Real Salt Lake

March 18: Philadelphia

March 24: Chicago, Columbus, New England, Toronto

May 12: Houston

  • So I've got a little over 3 months to convince the boss (AKA the wife) to re-up our season tickets. Hmm...

$200 gets you in the door, so it's not too expensive. I got my wife to watch, so that helps, but now I have to spend double.

Gotta do it or you'll miss that Supporter's Shield run next season. ;)

  • So a bunch of the East vs. West games will be opening weekend (assuming, since all 9 Western conference teams have home openers the same weekend, none of them are playing each other). Seems like a bit of an odd way to kick things off, but whatever.

Also, can we assume that the Fire will play both the Montreal home opener and the new stadium opener? :) We know MLS likes to stick them in those games just for fun.

  • In reply to Mateu:

Don't forget the Houston stadium opener in May.

  • so even less time to pick up new players. i hope they don't sit on their hands and wait come january.

Klopas is heading out to Europe...more on that soon.

  • In reply to Guillermo Rivera:

Probably looking at a potential midfielder or a targeted striker that can finish and pair up with Oduro. It would be cool if they get a look at Wigan striker Hugo Rodallega and he is going to turn 27 in July. He and Oduro will be dangerous on top and I see him as a younger version of Juan Pablo Angel. He will definitely be DP money for how much?

Anelka would like to move to the United State, and he also sees himself in MLS in the future...

  • In reply to waam:

While we're talking about Chelsea players......Michael Ballack is also suppsedly looking at MLS and Didier Drogba reportedly has some interest in Los Angeles.

  • In reply to Guillermo Rivera:

Don't forget to mention, long-time rumored Fire target Seedorf is interested in an MLS move. I think he's on the same boat as Zidane, taking turns rowing...

i don't think we are going to see any big name this year. here are a few reasons why: 1. the FO can't even get a sponsor deal in place even after a year of talking about it. 2. we can't even get businesses to buy marketing space on that video billboard on 55. i noticed last season there was just a blank screen on it and it also looked broken. 3. the FO can't even market this team. 4. we have an owner, imo, that seems to be the type of person that bought the team because he thought it would be cool after seeing a couple chelsea games. right now he is not being a proactive owner, whoop-di-do he had a say in the jersey design for the upcoming season, why has he not said to klopas " hey here is some cash go out and get a big name or two to help get this team to the mls cup." for pete's sake he isn't even at the majority of the home games. yes his iffices are in california but how hard is it to move your office from one place to another? look at what rocky did with the hawks, he said he wanted the cup and would help make it happen. rocky is at almost every home game. andrew just doesn't seem dedicated or passionate about this team. if he really loved this team he would invest money in getting the few pieces we need to make this team a contender and i don't see that happening.

again this is my opinion i may be wrong but this is how i feel about the team. i'll still be there supporting the team every game and maybe an away game or two.

I think that a big jersey sponsor business investment would come more of a product of having a big name or two. the FO may be holding out until after a few big names are signed to try and get more money from the deals. And as for Hauptman, i think that he is committed to this team. Blanco certainly was't cheap. then there was his investment in Ljungberg and Castillo in 2010 for a pretty penny. I can't blame him for not wanting to spend the money last summer with the team in the slumps and attendance down along with a coaching change. the additions of Pardo and Grazzini also had a much larger impact than Ljungberg and Castillo at a fraction of the price. Also, in this league winning is not all about how much is spent, as the Galaxy's 3 dp's are all offensive and they still had the strongest defense in the league.

  • In reply to colton:

blanco was here before andrew bought the team. so maybe andrew doesn't give frank money to invest in january, and we don't make any major additions to the team, how well do you think the team will play? how long until every team in the league realizes that we play everything through grazzini? how long until they neutralize oduro's and nyarko's speed? then what do you do, have a repeat of last year where we start out horrible and then claw back through a couple mid season acquisitions? i don't want to see that again. i want to see them pick up an effective forward that can play up top with oduro. i want to see a midfield that has more creativity and not just grazzini, before you say we still have pappa he may be gone in january and to be honest he never looked comfortable out there when grazzini was on the pitch with him. all of this takes money and i would like to see some commitment by taking the chance at signing players that cost money.

  • In reply to penapirata:

We'll see if Pappa is back......Klopas claims the Fire have had no contact or discussions with Twente.
