  • Pause should be on the bench with Paldini. I don't know what Klopas is thinking. Guess he doesn't think. Why not start Orr Barouch on top? Seems to have more Powerful Shots on Goal than Nazirit or Orduro.
Cant wait for the Posada and Klopas departure to happen. Maybe then and
only then things will improve. "Bring Peter Wilt back"

  • In reply to Juergen:

It's Klopas new idea, no 4-4-2- or 4-5-1, but something brand new
a 4-6-0, no strikers at all, it's called the wet (limp) noodle attack,
    a Chicago Fire specialty.

  • In reply to Juergen:

Why should Pause be on the bench? Is it because he is the fittest player on the field and can handle the defensive midfield allowing Pardo to play more freely like we need him to. Or is it that he is the captain and the player that might be our most underrated player? Our central midfield is set right now. Pause in the middle allows Pardo and Grazzini to play more freely with the ball and not have to worry as much with Paladini in there too. Pause is the first person on the team sheet every week. That shouldn't change anytime soon. Barouch is McBride/Blanco slow and is a good sub to bring off the bench. He changes the pace of the game and has pretty good vision. He isn't a starter for us.

  • In reply to Rubberbandman189:

Not sure what season you've been watching, but Pause has consistently been the most invisible player in the starting XI. Others have struggled (some more than others), but Pause has had little impact on games until he was moved temporarily to RB. He's a great guy, class act, and decent player, but he's been invisible in the central mid role all season, and is not nearly as vocal or intense as a team captain needs to be.

  • In reply to Rubberbandman189:

When I think of MLS holding midfielders, Logan Pause doesn't come to mind. Here are the following holding midfielders I would definitely put ahead of Pause: Juninho, Beckerman, Taino, Carroll, Joesph, Jewsbury, Frings, Masteroeni, Larentowicz, Alonzo, Hernandez, Chara and Kitchen.

  • In reply to longoria3:

I'd take exception with the inclusion of two names here: Kitchen has played center and right back for DC, but little if any holding mid, and Frings has looked like complete ass for Toronto (at least in the games I've seen). But, yeah, Pause definitely isn't a top ten holding mid in MLS.

  • Looks like Oduro AND Nyarko are listed as forwards in the official line up....let's see if that shakes out at first kick.

  • horrible horrible non-penalty call in seattle v chivas match

another black eye for MLS referees

  • In reply to CountChocula:

That was an awful missed call by Kevin Stott in the 89th minute allowing Chivas to escape with a point.

  • Half time. 2-1 Fire. Entertaining first half.

  • pappa is a much better player when he's making the pass instead of trying to dribble thru traffic. he started both attacks that led to goals in the 1st half tonite

  • with the lead chicago sits back and allows NY to attack at will - the tying score was inevitable....

now that its tied, chicago decides to start getting an attack again ....

  • and as i predicted - another draw.

i did miss on the score tho ....

    both teams go away disappointed

  • If Oduro could make a decent pass, the Fire could have gone ahead,
no excuse for such a lame pass.

  • At this time not sure we will even get to the USOC final. Looked like the players are starting to turn on another, never seen so much complaining from player to player about passes misses, or passes that came late, or people not making the right run..

I was hoping the team could keep it together, but I guess that was a bit of a pipe dream

  • There were a lot of missed passes, lack of coaching and field awareness, Fire will have to go at least 7-0-4 in the next 11
games to make the playoffs, more likely 8-0-3.
No more losses.Red Bull has to have the worst defense in the league
given the talent on the team.
Lucky for the Fire they wern't playing anyone good.
Still too much ball watching by several Fire players
and a little more hustle could have produced a positive result.

  • Way to much in complaining amongst themselves within the game, way to much space given to the other team when on defense.

All speed, no touch. The team looks like a collection of players out there with no chemistry. They are just not gelling. They look like a bad college team. Same stupid mistakes/tactics, same result.

Saw much better soccer in the Charleston / Charlotte USL match.

  • 65/35 possession by N.Y.,
    only 5 fouls on N.Y.,
20 shots by N.Y. but only 5 on goal, same as Fire.
Most telling stat 42 crosses by N.Y. 6 for the Fire.

  • Coaches have two jobs just put right players on the pitch and motivate then. Well it now clearly shows that neither is happening. These guy do not play together as a group and now are taking out this rage on each other. Sorry to see this happen as they melt down in frustration. Did I say Klopas is a dead man walking, hope he takes Leo with him. The bench could not have played any worse. Chemistry is problem and until Franks stops playing the big contract guys this will continue. Can anyone say 4-4-2 THis group has had line up changes every game. Do these guys even play these positions in practice. Klopas give us a break, your learning curve is over. This team plays like a high school team on steriods. No shape, style or substance. At least CDLC tried to possess the ball, Klopas just plays direct with no possession at all When will he learn that the other team cant score if we have the ball.

  • looks like keane to LA, a bit disappointed, thought he was someone we could have went after, we need a striker, and I think with him being irish and still factoring in their national team he would have been a decent draw, checking all the dp boxes.

  • In reply to lijien:

nicholas anelka mite be available next year - of course, like most of these Euro studs, they seem to only want to go to NY or LA

  • fb_avatar

a win here would have lifted some spirits. but another tie? this is getting depressing no matter how well klopas tries to spin this as a positive tie.

  • Aside from the Open Cup, there has been nothing positive to discuss this season. It has been just plain disappointing. And seeing the players tun on each other and fall apart like the have the last few games just exemplifies this. I'm just glad the EPL has started so Fulham can distract some of my attention. It's hard even to say that changes are needed after two years of change. the misery is also reflected in the dropping attendances at Toyota Park. After the wonderful past the team has had, the present and future r looking bleak. the FO needs to step it.

  • fb_avatar

When the going gets tough, its hard to see how any of this can turn around with the people we have. Still, I think if we win the US Open Cup, no matter how ugly this MLS season has been, 2011 will be a success. How can it not with the title of: US Open Cup Champions Chicago Fire

  • keane transfer bid accepted

    where does JPA end up?

  • While I respect Dom Oduro's heart and effort, he cannot be the guy leading the attack or being the guy up top. The pass he attempted to give to Pappa in the second half which would have been at least an 85% chance of scoring if it were a decent pass, was simply horrible. It is so obvious that Grazzini needs to play with true back to the goal top strikers up top to make his magic pay off. We have two young guns that can do that in Nazarit and Barrouch. Put Oduro on the wing. Nazarit gives all he has when he is out there. No one can argue the guy does not work hard. The same for Orr. If Patrick has to sit to start the game, so be it. Have him come in and give that spark of speed off the bench the break the other team. Right now, there is no connectivity with Oduro up top. When Nazarit and Barrouch were in together, they clearly have an ability to work together. It would be great to see Grazzini be playmaker for them.

  • In reply to Krasov:

tbh, i think nazarit is near worthless.

  • Lets have a little fun, I will bet that my starting 11 will beat yours. Barouch, Nazarith up top. Paladini, Bone, Baggio, Videra midfield. Mikulic, Gargan, Anil, and an injured Gibbs in the back. New Rookie subs to use off the bench and Conway in goal. Lets play the starting 11 that Klopas has been using winner starts next game. Oh did I say WINNER! The team on the pitch does not know how to win so maybe the subs coulds show them how. Oh is this is the reserve team vrs starters. Well not exactly but the last win was the starters vers a RedBulls reserve squad. So quit touting that as a real win. Who of the starters has ever won anything. Bet is a bottle of Jagermiester! Just win Baby!

  • So has it gotten this bad that GR isn't rating the players or is there a separate page in this new-fangled page? Any chances they bring in Freddie Ljungberg and Nery Castillo like they did a year ago. Man this is rough!

  • In reply to c0quito18:

I haven't had a chance to get the Recap and Ratings post up yet....should be up later today. I know kinda late, but......

  • In reply to Guillermo Rivera:

It's all good. I think from here on out you can just put a 5 next to each player and you'll be in the ball park. Except for Barrouch who should get an 8 for effort. Also, all predictions should now be in the format of 0-0, 1-1, 2-2. That is all

  • with 2 wins in mid august, probably should be a lot more 4's

  • I thought the MLS has a salary cap, how can L.A. pay Donovan, Beckham, and Keane, their salaries alone would top any other club
in the league. Would hate to see the league be dominated by N.Y. and L.A. These markets will not determine how well the league would do. It's the mid markets that will determine the strength
    of the league.
There has to be some parity in order to the league survive,
doubt if Garber has the balls to stand up to L.A. interests
How do you put balls on a eunuch anyway?
Soccer, although has been making strides with the U.S. public,
still isn't ingrained that deeply with the public to support a league,
year in and year out, dominated by one or two teams.
The league is still talking about expansion, but there are current teams that will be headed to the sick bay due to low attendance and
continued financial losses, plus the MLS is still in some ways is a fairly mediocre product at various levels. Good example the Chicago Fire. The club is losing money and losing attendance.
How long can they hang on?
Seattle will not maintain their attendance level year after year without putting a competitive team on the field once the newness wears off

  • In reply to lonecoyote:

I'm pretty sure DP salaries are exempt from the cap.

Personally, I'm not at all worried about lack of parity. We've seen with New York that splurging on a few big names isn't a path to success in MLS; you also have to have solid depth in place. Look at how successful Dallas has been with one moderately priced DP (who has been out injured for almost all of the season).

Finally, Seattle does already have a very competitive team on the field.

  • In reply to Ufficio:

dp counts for like 315k against the cap i believe, but la already had 3 so they shipped out JPA and replaced him with Keane. Plus there is always the funny money (allocation) that is used to pay down other salaries so it all fits.

Seattle I think will maintain, they have a great front office, and the area loves soccer. They give the ability for Alliance members STH and people who buy alliance rights, the ability to vote out the Technical director every 4 years.

and you need to take financial losses with a grain of salt, as many of the teams have appreciated in value, so maybe Andrew lost 4mil on the club since he bought them(made up figure) but the club for what 10m? but it now has to be valued at least 40m which was the last expansion fee..

  • In reply to Ufficio:

That's ture, but has their attendance improved significantly,
last year their average was 10,800. You can't stay in business
forever with those figures even if you improve the product.
It would be different if multi national concerns subsidized MLS teams to the extent that is done in Europe. Most European clubs would be bleeding if wasn't for that support.
I don't think Fire fans will come out in droves to see Dallas play, unless the Fire are competitive.
Just read a rumor thatFC Twente is going after Pappa.
Asking price is 1.5 mil Euro (roughly 2 mil US)
If this is true sell the S.O.B. but ask for cash.
    No checks.

  • In reply to lonecoyote:

Their attendance certainly isn't great (although up to 13k average this year), but my point was really just that you don't have to go nutty with the spending to put a competitive product on the field.

  • In reply to lonecoyote:

Ahhh...the beauty of a single entity league. It's never really been clear how the dollars are divied up but success of teams like Seattle helps carry some of the lesser teams and they have been succesful onthe field so far. Despite all the big dollars spent in New York and LA neither one has won anything...yet. I like the direction the league is going but there are still plenty of issues to iron out.

  • Galaxy get their man. Crazy I feel so bad Fire can't spend like that...

  • Rumor is Twente want pappa .. i say we sell.

  • In reply to lijien:

I agree, see my last post, asking price stated was 1.5 mil Euro,
could have been a typo, maybe it was 1.5 Euro, still sell the S.O.B.

  • In reply to lonecoyote:

Who do the Fire get for his replacement?

  • In reply to Adam25:

don't really need one, nyarko on the left, oduro on the right, grazzini in the middle, a forward, bench with bone or husidic coming in, or maybe the academy player not gulley but the other one can get a run here and there... we aren't going to get the play offs so time to see what we have in the reserves to see if anyone might make the leap..

  • In reply to lijien:

I still think the core needs to be figured out to drive this team for the next 2 years. Keep who is part of the plan and maybe start bringing up players from reserves... Not sure how well Pappa would do in Europe He barely ever has to strong games in a row...

  • In reply to Adam25:

pappa already stated he was going to explore europe when his deal is over next year

  • With 1.5 mil we can get someone fairly decent at the DP level.
This probably will put Oduro back in mid, hopefully.
We also could use a top notch defender that doesn't get injured, doesn't get yellows, or doesn't ball watch, but has decent covering spped. Opens an internatinal spot. Thought the transfer window ended today, maybe the Fire have someone in mind already, don't
think this was a last minute deal.

  • Read that Pappa wasn't at pratices today can anyone confirm. or the fire don't pratice on Mondays?

  • Just hard to believe that anyone would give 2 mil for anyone on this squad, particularly Pappa.
The saying is if you don't show by 24, you probably won't show at all.
Pappa is getting close to 24. I believe he can become a decent journeyman player, but not someone who we will regret losing.
For $2 mil the Fire should find someone decent, but the track record isn't outstanding. Only Oduro, Orr, and Anibaba standout as decent signings, word still out on Grazzini and Pardo but could be quality signings.
Also, hope to see Gulley start on the reserve team instead of sitting most of the time like Pineda. Some scouts rate Gulley as the top US-u17player, he needs pro experience quickly and often to reach
    his potential

  • i dunno about pappa, but Brek Shea is drawing European interest. maybe one less FC dallas player to worry about....

  • fb_avatar

i hope the tell Brek before we meet them in the finals.
