Manchester United Arrives Today

Fresh off a 7-0 thumping of the Seattle Sounders on Wednesday night, the Red Devils arrive in Chicago this afternoon.  The pre-game hype goes into high gear today as Frank Klopas, Sir Alex Ferguson, and others participate in  a media press conference.

On Friday night the Premiere League Champions will train at Toyota Park's turf pratice field but the event is private and restricted to paying customers.  Tickets for the training session are $100 a piece.

"Chicharito" Hernandez did not participate in the Seattle match and his status for Saturday has yet to be announced.

Worth a Look

This has nothing to do with the Fire and Manchester United but you might want to check out Brek Shea's golazo in Toronto last night.

  • $100 for training session. WOW! I guess I'll be standing on Harlem bridge watching the training from there...

  • Sounds like the Fire will be wearing red on Saturday and Manchester United will wear their new black and blue road kits.

  • the thing that is a shame about the 7-0 is that seattle controlled play in the first half, but when they went to subs, and united brought rooney in it was sad. I'm a bit torn on these friendlies with the top of the top leagues, their bench is still usually a top 10 club for their league, where as MLS finds more joy against mid table teams because they have big drop off to their bench too, so the games stay competitive.

Yep...Seattle held their own in the first half but there is no way MLS subs can stay competitive against a bench like Manchester United's.

  • so Guillermo, would you play everyone? Or would you play starters for 60, 70 min then sub here and there in hopes of keeping it competitive?

  • In reply to lijien:

Seeing that they don't have another MLS match until August 3, I'd probably try to keep it as competitive as possible for 70 minutes or so and then give the bench players a chance to get a run out against them.

  • MLS trade:
Houston deals Lovell Palmer and Mike Chabala to Portland for Adam Moffatt and allocation money.

  • Keep in mind our bench is undefeated in reserve play. So the quality of our bench is much better than what seattle and the revs have.

  • In this article, Club America's manager now says that Pavel Pardo is weighing an offer from the Fire but he hopes to have him back in Mexico this season......

  • new rumor is pardo is now signed

  • Pardo has also told a Mexican sports radio program that he is finalizing a deal with MLS and the Fire.

  • ESPN says done deal on Pardo.........
