  • 0-0 after a pretty even first half

  • Galaxy 2
    Fire 1
Sloppy defense on a corner kick is the difference

  • I'll be honest.. i miss DLC, it may not have been great soccer.. but at least they tried to.. this ball down either flank to speed, and nothing in the middle.. run and hope someone keeps up.. and the results aren't really that different..

  • In reply to lijien:

Nothing is going to change until they address central midfield.

  • In reply to Guillermo Rivera:

but to me that is only part of the problem. Niether Oduro or Nyarko pinch in well, they are wide men who stay on the touchline, which leaves a huge hole for the 2 cms to cover, because Pappa doesn't always work back. I think it would be a tough job for anyone in the middle.

  • In reply to lijien:

I think Nyarko does a decent job of tracking back.....Pappa not so much. That advanced center mid spot is the toughest position to fill in MLS IMO.

  • Completely shameless performance by the referee on the final attack on Nyarko. LA clearly tried to put him out of the match with their rough play in the latter stages of the match. Let's see if the league takes corrective action.

  • In reply to Arklow:

If you use the two game suspension and fine that was levied on Nazirit for an elbow as a measuring stick, one would assume that Birchall should be missing some time.

  • How come the Fire ended up with more fouls that LA. (14 to 9)
the ref is a ball less moron, not surprised that a fight broke out
as LA had several questionable challenges without any calls
and there were several times Fire players were held.
Although the officiating probably didn't effect the outcome,
it's still disappointing to see substandard officiating.
Hopefully, the league will review the Nyarko challenge
and change it to a red card, it was a far more dangerous play
than the one that had Nazarit sit out two games.
Otherwise, the Fire are only one playmaking midfielder from contending for the playoffs, hopefully they won't run out of time.

  • Logan Pause added very little, and Paladini gave the ball up repeatedly. Very sorry defense on the corners, and Segares played pretty good except for heading that ball out the back when Johnson called for it. Stupid stuff kills you against a good team.

  • In reply to Bumsteer:

Yes it does. Can't make sloppy mistakes against players like Beckham and Donovan.

    I love the Opta chalkboard.

  • since there is no place to put it, foudy has been great in the WWC booth, talking about formations, and player responsibilities in it. Not dumbing it down..

  • In reply to lijien:

This afternoon we found out which U.S. national soccer team has the balls in the family, at least the women's team knows how to play attacking and winning soccer.
Great comeback from adversity, much more stunning than the men's team comeback last year.

  • I thought Birchall should have been given several yellows. I don't think Odoro goes down easily and he was repeatedly hopped at the knees. There was no doubt that LA's stratgey was to foul Oduro and Nyarko the entire night which they did. The Beckham corner was unbelievable. I cannot believe professionals let that goal in. Seriously, this game was given away. The in abililty to complete a pass from the Midfield Line to the 18 is was killed the Fire. They gave the ball away time and time again. Logan Pause Button needs to get rid of the ball faster. He wants to swallow the ball. Against quicker CM's he has no chance unless he passes after one or two touches, no more. I thought Palladini worked extremely hard a for the most part took Donovan out of the game. Pause did well defensively as well. Back to the officiating, I really think that Oduro was not given any calls and that the kid is going to get hurt if referees allow teams to play like LA did. The last challenge on Nyarko was clearly intentional. Arena took Birchall out before the Fire retaliated or before he committed another outrageous challenge to get suspended even more.

  • In reply to Krasov:

The inability to complete the pass you described has killed them all year and will continue to kill them until they bring in an accomplished center mid. Good analysis Krasov.

  • so any news on either a new CAM/playmaker or wait till next year?

  • In reply to penapirata:

I'd be shocked if the signing of Sebastian Grazzini isn't announced on July 15.

  • In reply to Guillermo Rivera:

if that is the case, how long until we see a new signing on the field? my bet is towards the end of august.

  • In reply to penapirata:

If he doesn't pull a Nery Castillo and has kept himself in decent shape I would hope any new signing could start to contribute in early-mid August. Blanco was able to contribute immediately after joining the team in 2007, so we'll see....
