  • Sam Stejskal spoke to Klopas after practice today and asked about any further additions to the squad. Here's what he had to say....

"We're always looking, but obviously it's never good to make too many changes within a team. That's why you have an opportunity in preseason to get things right in the two months you have. Now is not a time when you make crazy changes or too many changes."

  • TFC trade day:

Toronto FC sends F Alan Gordon, MF Jacob Peterson, D Nana Attakora to San Jose for F Ryan Johnson, allocation $$$ and int'l roster slot

Toronto FC acquired MF Terry Dunfield from Vancouver for allocation money and future considerations

TFC now has a surplus of holding mids with Frings, DeGuzman, and Dunfield. Must be more action on the way.

  • I don't know adding one more player wouldn't hurt, but no shirt sponsor really hurts...

  • In reply to Adam25:

I would hope one does not preclude the other........

  • In reply to Guillermo Rivera:

but last year they had two dp's, this year they have none. something's fishy there. they are either in a rebuilding year or don't want to pay dp money with no sponsor.

  • The way we're not winning, it's going to get harder to get a shirt sponsor.

  • Props to John Kass for another awesome, supportive article today.

Contrast this to "Bill from Homewood" in the Have Your Say section complaining about how the Tribune Sports section was editorializing and promoting the Women's World Cup and soccer by putting it on the front page. He must be furious at the shameless promotion of the 'Hypes. One great example is when they dedicated a whole front page to the missing puck from the Stanley Cup final. Come back from the Pleistocene Era Bill.

  • In reply to Doug:

Bill should switch to the Sun Times, you would have needed a looking
glass to find the W.C. article about the U.S. comback.
As Abe Lincoln once said " God must love dumbasses because he made so many of them." I think that was the quote.

  • In reply to Doug:

It's always amusing to me how idiots like the guy who writes two or three "I don't care about soccer" articles every year in the Sun Times claim that people are shoving soccer down their throats when a soccer story is simply reported. They don't seem to mind seeing five articles about the All Star game that nobody watches, the NFL lockout, and other over-exposed nonsense. I'm sure people are dying to know where that missing puck went.

Then they wonder why "newspaper" reporting is a dying medium.

It's refreshing to see a John Kass article point out some of the issues that anti-soccer dinousaurs like to ignore.,0,7888385.column

  • Interesting article in the Wall Street Journal.......

  • In reply to Guillermo Rivera:

The URL is bleeding over into the right margin and I can't select it all.

  • Sorry to jump off topic, but I just saw that Gibbs is listed as questionable for Saturday on the MLS injury report due to a stomach virus. With Mikulic suspended, who plays if Gibbs is out? I'm guessing we see the return of Dasan Robinson, which I'm not particularly thrilled about. I'd almost rather see Segares - Cuesta - Anibaba - Ristic, even though that makes the CB pairing really young and Ristic has had some questionable defensive play, too.

  • In reply to Mateu:

Rest easy. Gibbs was back at training today so he should be ready tomorrow.

  • TFC still making roster changes adding 2 Crew players and sending one to them...Will see where this takes them???

  • Klopas on World Football Daily this morning...kudos on the honest comments regarding attendance and needing to win.......

  • TFC is still busy today trading Tony Tchani to Columbus for Andy Iro and Leandre Griffit.

  • On a completely unrelated question, I just noticed an item about the
Chicago Red Stars, and I can't understand why there wasn't more cross promotion with the Fire, like having a Fire/Red Star double header.
It probably would have helped the girls and probably would brought
extra fans in for the Fire. Hopefully a World Cup win will help keep the women's league going.

  • In reply to lonecoyote:

I'm not sure there's a good answer to that considering that they played in the same park, the Red Star offices were in the parking lot, and Peter Wilt was involved. MLS in general really didn't do much to cross promote the league. I'll be watching Sunday.
