Another look back at 1981 courtesy of FireStingDoug:
After a huge win like the one against the Cosmos a letdown could have been expected for the Sting but it never came. The next game in Minnesota at the old Metropolitan Stadium saw the Sting route the Kicks 5-2.
Arno Steffenhagen returned to the lineup after missing the New York game to score two goals, one on a bicycle kick. Ingo Peter also scored a brace, recording one of his two scores on a Karl-Heinz Granitza-like free kick attempt. Granitza scored the other himself.
Paul Coffee started the second half of this game in goal for the Sting. As mentioned in the previous Have Your Say comments section, this was the beginning of the end for Phil Parkes with the Sting. With a fifth consecutive win, an in form Sting team improved to 7-2 on the year.
