Fire Reserves Stay Unbeaten - Tie Sporting Kansas City 1-1

An 11th minute goal from newcomer Cristian Nazirit and a 40th minute equalizer from Chance Myers provided the scoring in the Fire's Reserve League match against Sporting Kansas City this morning at the Toyota Park practice field.

The Fire's starting eleven included Alec Dufty in goal and Dasan Robinson, Kwame Watson-Siriboe, Josip Mikulic, and Bratislav Ristic in defense.  Ristic looked fairly comfortable at left back displaying the versatility that makes him a valuable member of the team.

Martin Rivas, Brady Wahl, Baggio Husidic, and Victor Pineda on the left side rounded out the midifield while Nazirit and Orr Barouch started up top.  Wahl, a Fire academy player has shown well for himself in Reserve League action as a future prospect for the big club.  Another academy standout, Peter Beasley also saw action.

Notes : Barouch, another young player with a potentially bright future also stood out during the match.  Mikulic was subbed out in the 41st minute but the substitution was not injury related.  Nazirit showed he can finish but he still needs some condition work before he's fully match fit.

Castillo Officially Gone

In this article, Frank Klopas acknowledges that the Fire have declined the option to pick up Nery Castillo's contract.  Somewhere in the distance I hear fireworks.

  • Fire reserves are now 2-0-1

  • The Giovanni Hernandez rumors are not true and here's another rumor regarding Ramon Morales that I highly doubt.......

  • Since Leo Percovich is doing such a good job with coaching
the Fire Reserves he should be given the opportunity to
Coach the A Team for a while or at least until Eric Wynalda
can be acquired. DLC has had his chances and the desired
results aren't there. I would like to salvage the season
and grow the Fan Base and not decline it under DLC.

  • I don't see how the FO ever give Perco a shot with the First Team unless CDLC is canned. Do we really think Klopas is going to release CDLC mid-year in the last year of his contract? It's obvious to anyone surrounding the club that his time with the Fire will be over after this season. I think, as much as I want to see CDLC go if this trend continues of less-than-favorable results, we won't see him gone until the season is over.

  • I would think this year makes or breaks Klopas' position with the Fire. he must know this. DLC will not be fired as that would signal the end for Frankie. Any rookie coach is a crap shoot, and yet another beginning. I would gamble with Marsch, rather than Wyanalda, but Jason Kreiss types are hard to come by.

  • This was the 1st reserve game I attended. Nice to see Nazarit score. The netting and the fence obstruct the view a bit, that's unfortunate. Victor Pineda had good touch and passed well. I was surprised to see KC fans. I wondered did they live here and support KC or did they travel. No Ochocinco to be seen, maybe if there was a bull riding show he would have made it. I resisted the temptation to chant "you are still the wizzzzzards." It would have felt wrong in the smaller setting.

  • Mikulic was taken off as a precautionary measure after picking up a "small knock".
