Pantazopoulos Signing Announced

After beating out 210 players from 19 different nations, open tryout winner Pari Pantazopoulos can finally say he is officially a member of the Chicago Fire.  The Greek born, Mount Prospect transplant played professionally in Cyprus and Greece before returning to the Chicago area and participating in January's open tryout.

The Fire's release lists him as a midfielder but he also played as a defender in pre-season.

  • That is fairly exciting, guess it makes the open tryouts worth it. although i wonder if they will have them again next year, since they hoepfully will have less spots to fill

  • In reply to lijien:

I'm assuming they will continue to have them every year during the winter.

  • GR, can we assume roster moves final till next transfer window?

  • In reply to Adam25:

I think they're still looking for a target forward and possibly a central midifielder so I wouldn't assume that the roster is final just yet. The transfer window closes on April 15 but I would think that a summer transfer for those types of players is more likely.

  • In reply to cesba:

do you think they are going to hold off on a signing and see what the current players have to offer?

  • In reply to firefan1998:

I know they're still looking and might even have a player or two in mind. If I had to guess I would say they're going to wait until the July transfer window opens before adding players.

It seems they like the chemistry so far but it's still too early to get giddy. If the team plays well in the next two matches before the primary window closes then maybe they wait until July.

  • In reply to Adam25:

Awesome I'm so happy Pari made the team!
He sure had the odds stacked against him!

Way to go...representing Mt. Prospect, IL my home town! :-)

  • According to Andrew Hauptman at the Town Hall meeting, they are in discussions with several potential partners but nothing appears imminent.

  • GR, How is the team health wise? Anyone out for Saturday's game? Will Ristic get the start ahead of Nyarko if he is healthy?

  • In reply to SoccerNewbie:

Ristic and Maric played in the reserve game on Saturday so they should be pretty close to returning...otherwise pretty healthy with the exception of Kinney and Banner. I'll ask the question but I doubt I'll get a straight answer on whether or not Ristic or Nyarko gets the start.

  • In reply to cesba:

I like this New Feature from The Fire touchline-tv
I think Brenden Hannan does a good job as an announcer
and commentator for The Chicago - Fire.
This New Feature is Great For The Fans and helps promote
The Chicago - Fire Team in the community.
I think in time he can be for the Fire what Howard
    Balsm was for the Sting.

  • In reply to cesba:

I am really feeling positive about the team and the organization. Just such a different vibe than last season. Anyway, congratulations to Pari - very exciting to see a player come up this way. I hope to see him on the pitch soon. On another note, I hope I can get a Puerari jersey soon.

  • In reply to JeannieH:

There does seem to be a different vibe around the team this year.

It's about time somebody incorporated a Depeche Mode song into a soccer chant........

  • In reply to SoccerNewbie:

Great human interest story. Hope he does well. Para has to be John Kass's new favorite Fire player.

  • In reply to SoccerNewbie:

Per Sam....Ristic training fully today. Banner, Kinney, and Maric sitting out.
