Injury Update and More

The midweek injury report has been udpated and both Cory Gibbs and Marko Maric are listed as doubtful.  Houston has several key players unavailable as well, although that hasn't kept them from going undefeated in their last four matches.

CHICAGO FIRE -- OUT: MF Mike Banner (L Achilles tendinitis); DF Steven Kinney (R Achilles repair); DOUBTFUL: DF Cory Gibbs (L hamstring strain); MF Marko Maric (L ankle sprain)

HOUSTON DYNAMO -- OUT: FW Calen Carr (concussion); FW Brian Ching (L rib separation); DF Jermaine Taylor (R foot sprain); MF Francisco Navas Cobo (R hamstring strain); MF Danny Cruz (R knee hyperextension); MF Lovel Palmer (L lower leg tendinitis)

Mid Week Misc

The CONCACAF Champion's League Finals begin tonight when Real Salt Lake attempts to improve on MLS' 0-21-3 record against Mexican teams south of the border in competitive matches.  The first match in Monterrey will be televised on FSC and Telefutura at 9 pm.  Needless to say, a victory would be huge for MLS.

This week's All-In podcast features Jon Conway, in an entertaining listen.

This article takes a look at the average age of each MLS roster.  The Fire are the fifth youngest team in the league.

Benny Feilhaber appears to be staying in New England despite reported trade overtures from Houston.  Feilhaber and Shalrie Joseph should make a pretty solid midfield pairing.

  • should put baggio on the injured report with splinters

  • In reply to lijien:

ha, that made me cringe because I like the guy and wish he was more involved right now, but that was funny!

  • In reply to RedLine55:

i like him too, but it was to easy not to make the comment :)

  • Huge result for MLS! RSL 2 Monterrey 2 in the first leg.

Second leg is next Wednesday in Utah.

  • In reply to cesba:

That was a great match to watch, had a bit of everything. And what an unbelievable finish by Morales after being a ghost most of the game - clinical! Congrats to them, I hope they can pull off the win next week.

  • In reply to cesba:

RSL is making MLS proud. It's wierd to think tho that if Thorington makes a penalty, this wouldn't have happenned. Either way, RSL is probably representing MLS better than CHicago would've>

  • In reply to cesba:

That game was awesome! How did that Monterrey player not get a red card for the deliberate choke-push on the RSL player? I know there was a bit of "showsmanship" there but he put his hands on an opposing player with the intent to harm about two feet in front of the referee. These Central American refs give the MLS refs a good name. In any case, I can't wait for the second leg at Rio Tinto Stadium!

  • In reply to c0quito18:

I thought the ref was excellent, except for the yellow on Beckerman. Perhaps he should be imported for MLS games along with any colleagues of similiar quality.

  • In reply to cesba:

Fire have a poll on which player who hasn't started would you like to see start, Baggio winning by a landslide right now

  • In reply to lijien:

so this is how CDLC is going to choose his line up for saturday?

  • In reply to firefan1998:

nope, CDLC should chose what he thinks is best, but i think it shows that most people think he is getting it wrong...

  • In reply to firefan1998:

A report surfaced today that the New England Revolution asked for BOTH Brad Davis and Geoff Cameron in trade from Houston in exchange for Benny Feilhaber.

That sort of rules the Fire out of any trade possibility for Feilhaber. That would be the equivalent of asking for both Pappa and Nyarko.

Josip Mikulic puts the blame on himself for the failed offside trap which led to the Chad Barrett goal on Sunday........

  • In reply to firefan1998:

So many topics, so little time. I'm surprised that they ran that poll, just for that reason, there are a good number of Baggio supporters on the Fire's facebook page. I want him to get significant minutes, if not a start. I can't think abt. RSL and what might have been if we had beaten them
I can't see Dynamo making that trade.

  • In reply to firefan1998:

NYRB looked good tonight and Aguedelo had a beauty of a goal

  • In reply to lijien:

yeh, his creativity in finding the net is incredible

why hasnt he been starting/playing much of late?

  • In reply to CountChocula:

He's been working through a groin injury of late.

  • In reply to lijien:

Robinson, Husidic may start in place of Anibaba, Videira......

    http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/fire-may-shuffle-deck-after-3-game-losing-streak

  • In reply to cesba:

i'm fine with that, tho if ppl think robinson is slow at center back....he wont be any faster at right back

  • In reply to CountChocula:

It depends on the angle you're viewing him from. ;-)

  • In reply to cesba:

ugh....I don't get with Robinson starting; he is too slow to play centerback and outside. Videira I can understand that move and I would prefer KWS/Cuesta to start.

  • In reply to cesba:

Morales had a quiet game, but came up with some magic. Blanco did the same thing a lot of times. Puerari, I believe, is similar. I'd like to see him stay in the whole game because I think he can bring that magical touch that could have changed things in these past games. I don't think it's a fitness issue (like it was with Barrett for example).
