Check back here on Saturday at 6pm for another live chat as the Fire take on the Charleston Battery in their final preseason match before the MLS season kicks off.
Chicago Fire v Charlston Battery
2011 Pre Season
Carolina Challenge Cup, Charlston Battery, Chicago Fire
Interesting Fire line up, Johnson; Anibaba, Videira, Pantazapolous; Nyarko, Paladini, Bone, Paul, Segares; Puerari, Barouch
looks like last game of preseason will be a slow one
Some SI predictions........
Ha, there is not on positive mention of the Fire (except for Pappa in ONE all star listing)... this is going to be fun.
Charlie Corr's Fire outlook.....
Goal.com's Eastern Conference preview......
any idea when the final 3 spots will be signed?
I would expect something early this week...training starts for FC Dallas tomorrow. Let's see who's not at the Kick Off Luncheon.
This is cool
So far everything I've seen regarding DLC's handling of the team roster is deja vu' from last year. I predict Anibaba as a surprise starting forward with Chaves and Puerari in back, Pappa in goal and Sean Johnson as the creative midfielder. GR-- I'm just practising!!However, if DLC doesn't make up his mind on a starting lineup (and their positions) by next Saturday, I will be in full form very soon. I want to see three straight games with the same lineup!!!
Along the lines of SP, I think DLC will make some surpise cuts. I really think that a veteran is not going to be on the plane on Friday. Here is my prediction for a starting line-up on Saturday:
Janil A. - Mikulic -Gibbs
I like your prediction! Just hope that DLC has the patience to give them the time to jell.
We'll see...have to figure Segares will figure into that line up somewhere

Thanks for the link. I've found this to be a pretty good value and ensures you see almost all the Fire games. It's neat to listen to the broadcast from the other team as well. It seems I always have trouble ordering because the person that answers has no idea what you're talking about.
it would be awesome if the fire win everything this year despite ll the critics.
I think I'll pick them to win the whole thing in my upcoming season preview....or not.
It looks like the first 3 or 4 games will be pre-season for the Fire.
I'm not overwhelmed with their pre-season so far regarding their offense.
The defense is probably better than most in the East, but will be under constant
pressure because of the lack of offense.
If the scoring woes continue, hopefully Orr will get a shot in the lineup,
I feel more confident of him than Chaves.
I'm not looking for much in the beginning games, but by mid-season we'll know if we have to wait
until season 2012.
orr didnt really impress me in the final match vs charleston. his name as hardly mentioned as i remember it. tho to be fair, that was just a poor match overall, & really screwy due to the red cards
I have a feeling Orr played up front and led the line last game to see if they really need Ferrari to backup Chaves.. since Orr said he preferred to be the withdrawn or on the left as opposed to lead the line.. But really i think only part not set up is the forward line. And where pappa will play either left or central, and then who fills in.. but i think he will be more central with sega on the left, nyarko on the right, pause and husidic in the middle..
One more thought, if Ristic doesn't start that Segares will start on the left with Pappa moving to the middle behind Chaves and Purari. I think this is better from a defensive standpoint and Sega has a great knack reversing the attack from left to right at just the right time. I say Sega hits Nyarko on a long diagonal ball who cuts inside to find Marco for a blast to the top right corner to start the scoring. This of course will lead to discontent because Chaves and Puerari will feel as though Pappa should have found them just inside the area. Let's hope the first part is true and the latter is just a dream.
Ferrari and Pantazopoulos were both at the Kick Off Luncheon today....Daivs Paul was also introduced as one of the team members. No official announcement yet, but I'd venture to say that's a pretty good indication of who the last men on the final 28 are going to be.
Full report coming soon...including some words with the Don.
Sam says 2 are being signed.. with a possible 3..
GR, based on he pics, Calen Carr was not at the kick-off luncheon. My guess is that Calen got the bad news that he is not going to be on the plane. I think its a sad day for a guy who endured significant injuries while playiong for the Fire and worked his way backj through grueling rehabs. If this is true, I wish Calen all the best. He is one of the truly good gys in soccer.
I'll have an update shortly. Carr is apparently injured and was not able to attend.
Any predictions for the Eastern and Western Conference based on who will qualify in the playoffs? champions?
I should have picks post up soon.
Every other blog picking Fire for 8th or 9th in the East. Not much confidence in Frank and DLC's off-season efforts!! If those predictions come true then everybody below the owner better have their bags packed. If you're religious better start praying that Puerari and Chaves are diamonds in the rough -- I'm starting now -- and I'm not even religious!!!!!!
The Fire are better than TFC, New England, Columbus and DC United even though DC has improved from last year. I have them in 5th place in the Eastern Conference.
Totally agree on Toronto and maybe DC--I'm not as high on Ben Olson as everyone else seems to be. However, I was able to watch the Crew and Revs in Chattanooga and I was very impressed with the Crew: Andres Mendoza looks like a very strong pick for the Crew and Justin Meram and Dilly Duka will surprise a lot of people. Not as impressed with the Revs but even they looked promising. My opinion, unless Puerari and Chaves shine and DLC turns into Pep Guardiola, it's going to be a long year. Man I hope I'm wrong !!!
