  • GR, this Puerari is really impressing me thus far! I am plesantly surprised by him. He and Chaves are giving defenders fits not seen since a relatively-young Josh Wolff was manning the Fire's frontlines. I'm actually looking forward to Wednesday's Open Cup match!

Agreed. They both are constantly working hard. It actually looks like they want to play here and are not just cashing their checks ala cash Collecting John and Nervy Castoff.

it appears colorado will probably not be using many first choice players in the US open cup match this week

  • In reply to c0quito18:

They've got a match against DC on Sunday in Colorado. It doesn't sound like they're very concerned with the US Open Cup.

  • In reply to c0quito18:

Fire will play an exhibition match on Saturday morning at 10 am against the NSC Minnesota Stars at the TP practice field.

The annual Meet the Team event will be held later that same day.

mikulic and puerari get honorable mention btw

I'm really impressed w/ the intensity the team has brought out the first two games. Yes, they made some defensive errors (and Johnson had less than nimble hands on the first goal), but overall they've been solid defensively. Gibbs, Mikulic, and Anibaba are all crazy-good together. Those guys have really come together and work well as a unit. If you throw Gonzo back there as well, it's a solid backline (even w/ Gonzo's lazy back pass leading to Bunbury's goal Saturday.

Offensively they look exciting as well, though. Puerari's speed is so deceptive. He turns it on at the right time and just blows by guys. Diego goes after everything, really aggressive, but both guys play it clean.

I give Pappa my vote for this match, though, as his goal ended up being the difference. Without that goal, we'd be looking at 2 ties, and 2 less points. If we were 0-0-2, I think there are very different conversations going on this week than with them being 1-0-1.

Looking forward to seeing what they do against the Rapids, as well as the exhibition match this weekend.

I agree. I'm excited about the work ethic on the team. Thu Uruguayans look like finishers. It should rub off on Patrick. And to be fair, I had less than nimble hands on Saturday as well. Had to go with the bottled beer because it was too hard managing the cups of beer with gloves on.
