Hey Look It's A New Banner (not Mike)

It took a while but thanks to you guys, Fire Confidential finally has a new banner.  Blanco, McBride, and Conde are gone so hopefully Nyarko and Johnson will stick around for a while therefore saving me from the abuse regarding an out of date banner.

  • I'm still getting the old banner.

On a separate note, the Soccer By Ives site is messed up on my work and home PC's. Don't know if anyone else noticed that.

  • Refreshed my browser. Looks very impressive.

  • Guillermo,
    "The New Banner looks good."
I hope that Nyarko and Johnson remain healthy
and are a part of the Fire for a long time.
Thank you, for all of your hard work and keeping
us Fans entertained and informed about the Chicago-Fire.

  • In reply to TigerJMS:

I second that, Guillermo does a great job. And a thanks to all his readers who have made this a must-read and must-participate Fire blog.

  • In reply to JimmyGreenfield:

Hey Guillermo, your boss's beard is ridiculous. Is it just for the winter or what?

  • In reply to DDT5583:

    I kid because I love

  • In reply to JimmyGreenfield:

Is this the same Jimmy Greenfield that pans the Fire and soccer in general anytime he has a chance on the RedEye's 5 on 5? Turning a corner, supporting a fellow jornalist....what gives?

Still can't stand the dissmissive and overall negative tone he's taken on a few occasions regarding the world's game.

  • In reply to giaco:

    journalist...I swear, I can spell--I just can't spell check.....ugh.

  • In reply to giaco:

Hey Guillermo....nice header....it's got some splash and a bit of pizzaz without being too over the top. The red however is quite loud.

Hey, come out to the AGM tomorrow, we'd love to have some coverage of the ISA's annual meeting and elections. First beer is on me--have you had Malort with us yet?

  • In reply to giaco:

    Giaco,

    I'll be there.

  • In reply to giaco:

Did anyone else notice that Denis Hamlett is now the IIT interim head men's soccer coach? If that got publicized, I missed it. I just found out from the IIT magazine.

  • In reply to Fuegofan:

    Fuego,
He WAS the IIT soccer coach. He's now an assistant for the Vancouver Whitecaps.

  • In reply to Fuegofan:

G, is there a stated reason why the Fire camp starts 2 weeks later that all other team camps with the exception of the NE Revs? Just wondering if the Fire think they know something the other teams don't ?

  • In reply to Celt:

    Celt
Here is the answer to your question.
With Frank Klopas great ability as the Technical Director
and Carlos de los Cobos tremendeous coaching and motivational skills The Fire need less time than all the
rest of the teams. After all the Dynamic Duo the Fire has
in Frank and Carlos are the envy of the league.

  • In reply to Celt:

    They're too good...they don't need the practice.

But seriously....the dates are set up in advance and some teams like RSL started earlier because they have CCL games coming up very soon. I haven't noticed that they're too far behind anyone else.

  • In reply to cesba:

RSL I understand, but the fire are 14 days behind most teams who started on Jan 30 or Feb 1. RSL is even earlier for the reasons you stated. The Revs started a few days before the Fire, the rest 2 weeks. There is a list on MLS site.

  • In reply to Celt:

Celt, the Fire actually started training last Monday Jan. 31

  • In reply to cesba:

Oops, I have lost 2 weeks of my life and was spaced on today's date for some reason. must sleep more.

  • In reply to Celt:

    Space/time continuum interruptions are a bitch ;)

  • In reply to Celt:

It's OK Celt, we all have been reduced to the reflexive action of questioning the idiocy of the decision makers, chalk it up to force of habit!

  • In reply to Celt:

Julian Posada is all talk and no walk. Can't even secure a deal with Bimbo, the Union landed it before him. Another one to chalk up for Fire management.
G-dog, what is Fires approx. net worth right about now? I'm really feel like writing a check out for the club.

  • In reply to Janjo:

Somewhere in the $40 mill range......that's a lot of protein shakes.

  • In reply to cesba:

Los Angeles are the only team with triple digits.

  • In reply to longoria3:

Hi, New York called and wants that action.....

Right now NY has a higher value than most all other teams, and I'd venture to say they have a higher net worth than LA.

  • In reply to giaco:

Very possible that NY is closing in on LA in terms of net worth. WSJ released approximate numbers a while back but that was before the signing of Henry and opening the new arena.

  • In reply to Celt:

    Whaaaaaa!!!
    Love the new banner!
If you put Mike Banner and Calen Carr.
That banner would last you a good 10 yrs.
    ba dum shhh!!
    Thank you, thank you!
Don't forget to try the veal!

  • In reply to giaco:

    Sweet!!!

  • In reply to TigerJMS:

Great stuff Guille! Thanks for being so responsive to your followers on this blog. It really says a lot about your work when you see the same people commenting and contributing to the entries. I really hope the team offers us happier topics to discuss in the coming season. Oh yeah, and a flag jersey. :)

  • In reply to TigerJMS:

    Chicago-Fire Shirt Sponsor
There was a lot of hype about Julian Posada the New Chicago
Fire President when he came to the Fire with all of his
marketing and promotional skills. Very disappointing
he hasn't secured a major sponsor yet. Don't mind saying if
Peter Wilt was still on board with the Fire he would have
secured a major sponsor long before now.
"Maybe Julian Posada isn't all he was cracked up to be."
So far, No Radio, and Television contract to air Fire Games
and no one to sponsor the Jersey.
"Very disappointing performance so far on your end Mr. Posada"

  • In reply to TigerJMS:

I'm in a pissy mood today: but I'm super-tired of constant complaints and negativity in the comments.

And on top of that, I'm disappointed that Marco Pappa isn't on the new banner.

    :)

  • In reply to Byron:

    Pestilence,
We all want a team to be proud of and have
reputable sponsors and receive media attention.
The Fire Front Office Needs To Get Its Act together
in order for this to happen. Changes in staff needed.
Maybe some major changes are necessary like bringing
Peter Wilt back who has done so much for soccer in Chicago and every team he has been with has benefited
from his work. That is more than what we can say about Mr Posada who so far has done next to nothing.

  • In reply to TigerJMS:

Would you like some cheese with that...

  • In reply to TigerJMS:

The new banner is pretty cool. Hopefully the blank strip on nyarko's chest doesn't become a reality. Pappa and nyarko could be two of the top wingers in the league, so that is at least one bright spot for our team.

  • In reply to Byron:

Love the blank stripe on Nyarko's jersey in the banner:)

  • In reply to TigerJMS:

Pretty good article on the changing role and description of central midfielders........

  • The banner looks great....thanks for resisting the urge to put Mike Banner on it! :-)

Nice to have our 2 young franchise guys on it!

  • Logan Pause talks captaincy......

    http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/veteran-pause-inherits-reins-new-fire-captain

  • love it! well done on the new banner, worth the wait

  • It looks fantastic!!

  • Looking gooooooood.

  • My favorite part of the new banner is the white-washed sponsor line on Nyarko's jersey.

  • In reply to cweimers:

Let that be a lesson to Best Buy. ;)

  • In reply to cesba:

Maybe the players names can be sharpied onto the front of the jersey's until we get a sponsor! ;-)

I wouldn't mind seeing "FIRE" on the front of the jersey like the old days before "BEST BUY".

I'm not a fan of that block area across the chest very amateurish!

  • YES!!!!!!!! Totally rules!!!!
