Pappa Wins MLS Goal of the Year

The Fire did manage to win something this season after all.  MLS announced today that Marco Pappa's week 3 bomb against San Jose was voted the AT&T Goal of the Year.  Pappa managed to defy all adds and beat out the ballot stuffing, bot-voting fans in Seattle who only managed to get one goal named into the top five finalists.

Pappa talks about the goal here.

  • USA 1 South Africa 0 on a goal from impressive New York Red Bulls rookie Juan Agudelo. The hype machine will be in full effect now...this kid's only 17.

  • Good composure by Agudelo and Diskarud in the box, an area where USNT players have a tendency to blow it.

Robbie Findley showed what he did during the World Cup, nothing. Findley is working hard to become the next EJ.

  • Looks like Vancouver is set to announce the signing of Jay DeMerit.

  • Haven't seen the match yet, but it sounds like a pretty good outing for Pause by most accounts.

i only saw part of the game, gonna watch the whole thing on DVR later....

MLSsoccer didnt give pause a very good rating but then again the guy gave lichaj and findley mediocre ratings and i thot lichaj played well from what i saw, while findley did his usual once he got to the endline - lose the ball

Pause can play for the US but according to some of the brilliant minds at Fire big soccer site shouldn't be protected from the expansion draft. Beyond belief, and the reason I stopped reading those threads . I wonder what they see when watching the game.

  • In reply to Celt:

    Pause will surely be protected.

  • In reply to Celt:

there are some real pause haters there at bigsoccer

  • In 2007 I single-handedly won the contest for Blanco. It let you vote 10000 times. I held down the enter button and it voted nonstop for about ten minutes.

That changes my protected list a bit.

  • In reply to cesba:

I dont think he should be saved. If I'm not mistaken, he is making around 125k or so and expansion teams tend to pick solid old players or cheap young players.

  • This guy is not so hot on Pause's day.......

  • In reply to cesba:

he played the full 90 and this guy seriously thought he was the worst US player out there?

i think bradley woulda pulled him at half if he was performing that bad

  • In reply to CountChocula:

washpost gives pause a better rating. in fact these ratings are more in line with what i saw from the game, & are way different from mlssoccers ratings

    http://blog.washingtonpost.com/soccerinsider/

    Guzan 7; Lichaj 7, Goodson 6, Ream 6, Bornstein 5; Bedoya 7, Carroll 6, Pause 6, Gaven 5, Rogers 6; Findley 4. Reserves: Bunbury 6, Spector 5, Agudelo 7, Diskerud 7, Borchers 5, Agbossoumonde 5

  • In reply to CountChocula:

Let's not forget this is against South Africa, not a power house. In my opinion, I would had given Pause a 5, he did nothing great. It is not based on Pause haters, it is based on facts. Everybody forgot that the real Logan Pause came into play was last year against Mexico when he got pants a few times.

  • In reply to longoria3:

i wont disagree with ya there - he did nothing great but he also didnt screw up. 5's a fair enough rating. he certainly deserved a better rating than robbie findley tho

  • In reply to cesba:

Thought pause was solid. Struggled a bit early in the first half but settled by 30min or so and was good in the second half.
