Galaxy Win - Sounders Go Home

The Los Angeles Galaxy spared MLS the embarrassment of having to watch a conference final from a half empty Pizza Hut Park.  LA shut down Fredy Montero and Seattle's speed on the wings.  Once Los Angeles grabbed the aggregate lead at 2-0 Seattle's fate was sealed.

The Galaxy will now host FC Dallas at the Home Depot Center next Sunday night for the right to play in MLS Cup.

  • Amen on the half full PHP.
Zoomed through SportsCenter. Not one mention of the LA-Sea game or next week's conference finals. Ho hum. Livin' in the USA.

Hope the gals can take care of the Ticettes and the Azzuriettes as well.

Sportscenter was too busy talking about a 1-7 Cowboys team to mention anything else.

  • In reply to cesba:

Don't forget ESPN sprinkled in with some Viking and Brad Childress job security coverage that was getting very old by the second. Also, the four letter network had no MLS scoreboard updates underneath the TV set.

  • In reply to longoria3:

They've shown a commitment to international soccer and EPL with their WC coverage but for some reason fail to really grasp how to market a product on their own network. The only time I really see ads for MLS programming is DURING MLS programming.

  • In reply to cesba:

Also, the only time they show MLS playoff hi-lites on Sportscenter is when David Beckham and his Galaxy are playing. IMO, I think the arrogant commissioner of the And1 league (aka NBA) doesn't want the MLS get more exposure than his crappy league because he views soccer as a threat. While back, he mentioned that basketball is the world's most popular sport. The comparison with the MLS vs. NBA/NHL, the MLS attendance has outdrawn both leagues even the NBA/NHL has more advertisement than MLS. The local and national media aren't aware of it or deny it because they have little to no knowledge of the game.

  • In reply to longoria3:

David Stern does live in some bizarro reality where he believes that basketball is the world's most popular sport.

Roque Santa Cruz is looking to make a move possibly to MLS.....

DC United is sniffing around but apparently don't have the $$ to get the deal done. Hello....Frank.......

  • In reply to cesba:

It does not matter who we put up front if we cannot provide them with any service. Midfield maestro first!

  • In reply to DerSting:

    Can't disagree with that!

  • In reply to fire1020:

I wish. That would be my first choice.

  • In reply to cesba:

Would you compare Roque Santa Cruz a poor man's Juan Pablo Angel?

  • In reply to longoria3:

Not a poor man's version but a younger version.

  • In reply to cesba:

plus he wears number 9 like Angel.

I thought with "jinxy" gone Seattle was unstoppable??? ;)

  • In reply to Drew:

Incredibly they went just as far as they did last season by replacing Ljungberg with two designated players. ;)

  • In reply to cesba:

PLease make this trade. Santa Cruz 2 years ago was one of the top forwards in the premiership, and the idea that he can't break into the man city lineup is not a very good judgement of talent (Robinho, Given, Bellamy). He's also not that old. I know Mark Hughes is very interested in him for Fulham, which should say a lot.

  • In reply to fire1020:

He's only 29 and Fulham is apparently interested. He signed a four year deal with City in 2009 so there may be more involved than getting Santa Cruz to agree to a deal. There may be a loan or a buy out involved with Manchester City so it won't be cheap.

Interesting story about Chivas USA and the decision to release Martin Vasquez after giving him a vote of confidence only days earlier....

    http://espn.go.com/blog/los-angeles/soccer/post/_/id/4175/chivas-changed-its-mind-on-martin-vasquez-after-meeting

Apparrently he refused to can an assistant so he got the sack himself.

    Does MLS need tabloid press?

    http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/soccer/la-sp-jones-soccer-20101107,0,269127.column

  • In reply to cesba:

I don't know about tabloid press but getting some say on the media coverage would be nice. The Blackhypes footprint went ballistic as soon as got connected with WGN.

  • In reply to oliotya:

Tabloid press may be a bit much....how about just getting one of the local papers to actually hire a beat writer.

I firmly believe that the Blackhawks core audience isn't much bigger than the Fire's hardcore fan base but the media exposure led by WGN has dragged thousands of band wagon fans onto the Hawks party bus.

This is the same WGN that tells me soccer stories need to transcend the game in order to get coverage on their radio station.
