  • The old dartboard is out again and Nyarko is sitting. Segares doesn't dress so Krol gets back in.

Any chance Conde picks up a yellow from the bench?

  • ristic is the one guy on this team that seems to know how to pass

  • 11' - Pappa serves a nice ball in to Carr who blows the chance with an awful cross attempt

  • dare i say... we're looking good? i don't know what to think!

  • good attacking pressure so far from chicago

poor marking on set pieces again tho

  • even logan pause is getting forward and making forward passes

  • 18' - Pause has actually moved the ball forward three times already tonight

  • 20' - Pause has six forward advances - success is measured in small steps this year

  • 24' - Fire may have gotten a break on a handball call as Convey gets the time to tee it and pick out the far post

  • ljungberg is killing so many attacks with horrible passing

  • 27' - Carr with a terrible one touch pass

  • 35' - Pappa's cross just misses Carr

  • 36' - Ryan Johnson's header over Kinney is just wide

  • 39' - Ljungberg takes a corner as Pappa walks away with his back tuned to the corner

  • KINNNNNNNNNEY!

  • 40' - GOAL! Kinney scores on the header from a Ljungberg corner.

41' - San Jose displays some sloppy passing and Pappa actually gets off a right footed shot

  • GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOALLLLLLLLLLLLL kinney!

btw i am really liking ristic's game - he makes some nice passes, just that carr, freddie & pappa arent doing much right once they get it

  • In reply to CountChocula:

    Ristic looks pretty solid

  • In reply to CountChocula:

was just nice to see the fire have players moving forward for once

  • best half of soccer from the fire in a long long time

  • San Jose had more chances but the Fire lead 1-0 at the half

  • In reply to cesba:

its funny, it seemed like they had more chances than san jose, but with how poorly the fire have played the last couple months, i spose the illusion is because they just had more chances than we are used to seeing from teh Fire.

just getting players forward & completing a couple passes in a row seems like a a big deal

  • In reply to cesba:

where is Dan Kelly? It is Chris Doran and two different new guys with him

  • In reply to longoria3:

was wondering the same thing. But whoever it is, I kinda like it. But I've liked Kelly quite a bit, too.

  • In reply to RedLine55:

They're sharing the feed with San Jose and splitting the announce crew. This guy's home side goal call is awful.

  • In reply to RedLine55:

55' - Nice ball from Ristic sends Carr in....another corner

  • In reply to RedLine55:

damn.. great ball by ristic there. he seems to have great control when the ball's at his feet. oh damn, almost another corner goal there!

  • In reply to RedLine55:

yeah, that ball was absolutely outstanding!

  • In reply to RedLine55:

    72' - GOAL! - Ljungberg with a beauty! 2-0 Fire

  • In reply to RedLine55:

ristic is my player of the game just because he has initiated so many of chicagos attacks this game

that is putting so much pressure on san jose defense, chicago actually has space to operate

  • In reply to CountChocula:

i dig his work rate and passing

  • In reply to Drew:

and its caught on with the other players too

seems like all the players are passing well as the game got further on

  • In reply to CountChocula:

Fire's passing has been pretty good today...more vision on the attempts as well

  • In reply to cesba:

they are actually passing on the run instead of to the feet of a guy standing still getting closed down

  • In reply to CountChocula:

    yes!

  • In reply to CountChocula:

    91' - McBride for Carr

  • In reply to CountChocula:

    absolutely sweeeeeeeeeet! McBride LEGEND

  • In reply to CountChocula:

92' - GOAL! - Nyarko scores his first of the year after a nice exchange between McBride and Ljungberg

  • In reply to CountChocula:

    82' - Conde for Thorrington

  • In reply to RedLine55:

    wilman who?

conde, take a seat the rest of the year

  • In reply to RedLine55:

57' - Some nice passing from the Fire but Pappa bothces the pass

  • In reply to RedLine55:

57' - Johnson makes a save on Wondolowski - Krol needs to stay in front of him....way too many looks for Wondolowski in the second half

  • In reply to RedLine55:

59' - Kinney falls down but Convey takes too much time and the defense recovers

  • In reply to RedLine55:

61' - Doran says he spoke to Klopas and DLC has a two year deal and will be here at least two years....says it's unfair to give a coach only one year

  • In reply to cesba:

i think that makes sense although i'm far from sold on dlc. we'll know next year for sure what sort of mls coach he is.

  • In reply to cesba:

what a night for freddie, goal and 2 assts.

  • In reply to cesba:

    Full Time - Fire 3 Earthquakes 0

  • In reply to cesba:

Did I hear correctly that we hadn't had a goal from the run of play for over 5 weeks? That's absurd. Good to get that off our back. I wish this game was a couple weeks ago, though!

  • In reply to RedLine55:

Yes that is true...I wrote about that in the game preview

  • In reply to RedLine55:

Well what do u know there is some fire. better play for sure, and better movement. Onlu question now is will line out stay the same for saturday...

  • In reply to RedLine55:

so..... best game from the fire all year?

i think it was. the LA galaxy 3-2 win was nice but it was 20 minutes of good play and 70 minutes of bunkering

  • In reply to RedLine55:

Holy moly, starting a young line up full of speed and aggressive play worked . . . I'm not surprised. MLS is still very "American", fast and physical gets the job done more often than not. I'll take that over "attractive soccer" 7/24/365. Good match.

  • In reply to RedLine55:

glad i watched the game tonite - almost gave it a pass since it was such a late start and the fire hadnt given me much of a reason lately

i hope this is what CDLC meant when he said attractive soccer, cuz this is watchable stuff, esp the 2nd half

  • In reply to RedLine55:

The Fire played traditional MLS soccer and won, not any of that "attractive" nonsense.

Tonight was putting the ball into space, pushing up field, knocking guys off the ball and speed. That's a winning formula for MLS, not whatever we were sold in the off-season.

  • In reply to fireman451:

whats the attractive supposed to be then? not brazilian style, cuz that would be silly to think any MLS team could play that style anyways

  • In reply to CountChocula:

El Salvadoran, Mexican, something Frank and CLDC made up over dinner. But tonight wasn't what was promised, tonight was a return to way the game needs tobe played to win here . . . IMHO.

BTW, love the cereal you totally kick Booberry and Frnakenberry's collective asses. ;-)

  • In reply to fireman451:

Attractive, attacking soccer is something that every organization trots out when they hire a new coach.

Fireman's right....pushing the ball into space and playing the ball upfield on the ground is the formula for attractive, attacking soccer MLS style.

  • In reply to fireman451:

i guess the way they played tonite was more like what i had been hoping for anyways. movement off the ball, passing on the run, quick passing to players finding open space, only dribbling when it can be productive. if they had been attempting to play attractive soccer the last several months then i'd rather see more of what they did last nite

  • In reply to cesba:

ok ljungberg had a monster 2nd half

maybe he is player of the game. ristic was incredible too tho, IMO

  • In reply to RedLine55:

    61' - Nyarko for Pappa

  • In reply to RedLine55:

66' - Carr with a nice shot from distance - forces Busch into a big save

  • In reply to RedLine55:

wow, what a great rip from carr. i think this is the best i've seen him in a very long time. looks confident, mature. very good stuff.

  • In reply to RedLine55:

69' - Convey has to see a yellow here at some point

  • In reply to RedLine55:

70'- Kinney cuts back and shoots - save by Busch

  • In reply to RedLine55:

HELLLLL YEAH!!!! THERE IT IS!! that was beautiful. bout time!

  • In reply to RedLine55:

    finally freddie delivers!

  • In reply to longoria3:

    50' - yellow on Krol

  • In reply to longoria3:

52' - Nice ball from Carr sends Thorrington in and collides with Busch
