Fire Catch A Break....Will They Finally Captitalize?

The Fire will catch a bit of a break this coming Saturday.  Real Salt Lake playmaker Javier Morales has been suspended for this weekend's match up because of a knee to the midsection of Seattle's Osvaldo Alonso.  The foul was missed by the officiating crew on the field but the MLS Disciplinary Committee caught it afterwards.

Real Salt Lake also plays a CONCACAF Champion's League match on Wednesday against Toronto FC.  Somehow I doubt that RSL will use the excuse of playing two matches in four days as a crutch if they don't play up to par this weekend.

  • At this point the players need to start playing at least for respect. They definitely need a new forward for next season. I think they should do whatever it takes to get Justin Braun from Chivas USA. He's a good young target player who can score goals. He makes only $68,000 a year so I'm sure he would love some of mcbride's salary. Plus chivas needs to rebuild so I bet they would take some of our fringe players (banner). Since the fire don't defend anyway, I think the lineup for the rsl game should be mcbride and Castillo at forward, with ljungberg behind them. Pappa and nyarko on the sides. Pause and thorington as def mids. Conde Robinson and krol in the back.

  • In reply to fire1020:

Chivas has rebuilt on the fly this year and the chances of getting Justin Braun for Mike Banner are probably just as good as the odds that the Cubs will win the World Series this year.

  • In reply to cesba:

It wouldn't just be for banner but for our fringe players around his level. Banner, umanzor, John, krol, thorington, husidic. A combo of some of them draft picks and allocation money should do it.

  • In reply to fire1020:

I don't think Chivas would accept any combination of those guys for a young stiker that will probably get a USMNT look at some point.

From Chivas stand point, you can't rebuild by trading young talent for middling MLS players who have either been injured or struggled with another team.

  • In reply to cesba:

Any chance we could get cooper then. Just somebody who will score a lot of goals in mls.

  • In reply to fire1020:

I would love Kenny Cooper in a Fire uniform but it is seems like a pipedream.

  • In reply to longoria3:

There's an interesing thought. Cooper is languishing on loan at Plymouth Argyle.

  • In reply to fire1020:

Let's just try not to lose the rest of our games, huh?

  • In reply to fire1020:

Time for the Fire's DPs to stand and deliver. Let's see what they can do now, with no fitness excuses, yellow cards, or injuries. Oh, wait, it's an away game... at altitude... against the Supporters Shield holders...

JCO is out of a job again. Once Caldes has shown him the door.

  • In reply to cesba:

The professor or Recreationist as they call him in Columbia shown the door....what a shock. Who will get a head coaching job first Osorio or Hamlett?

  • In reply to fire1020:

Rapids have traded Mehdi Ballouchy to New York for Mac Kandji

  • In reply to cesba:

I rather have Kanji over Banner any day.

  • In reply to fire1020:

Is the injury list out yet?

  • In reply to Adam25:

    Not yet. Usually Tuesday afternoons.

  • In reply to Adam25:

Toronto FC has a major announcement at 11:30 today.

  • In reply to Adam25:

Steve Goff is reporting that a source tells him that Preki and Mo Johnston have been fired.

I would say that's major news.

  • In reply to cesba:

Wikipedia already has Preki and Johnson listed as history.

Looks like we're not the only ones wondering what's wrong with this team. I think they need a swift kick in the ass. Particularly the DP's, well Nery Castillo mostly, but Freddie too whenever he gets too involved with the officicals and not as involved with the play on the field.

Guille, do you think the return of Sega will mean a return of an overlapping run from a Fire defender? I just think they need to find a suitable left winger that complements his play. Who am I kidding? I just want 3 points!

  • In reply to c0quito18:

    Coquito,

I would hope that Pappa is at left mid from now on and yes...Segares does provide that overlapping run that Krol and Umanzor aren't particularly proficient at.

  • In reply to Adam25:

With the addition of two expansion teams next year, the MLS regular season is growing to 34 games.

  • In reply to cesba:

they are either gonna need to expand the rosters by a couple slots, or the players are gonna need to be better fit, cuz that means more mid-week games, and with injuries it mite be tough to field a full team that isn't already tired a couple times during the year

  • In reply to CountChocula:

Yes...that's something that really needs to be considered especially since MLS squads will still be involved in Champion's League, US Open Cup, and SuperLiga.

There will be no two week World Cup break next year which will help with the added games but there will still be other international competitions next season (Gold Cup) which will affect MLS sides.

  • In reply to cesba:

I wonder down the road will the MLS consider expanding rosters to 27 or 30 in Aug/Sept(like MLB format does with Spetember callups to expand rosters to 40 players). I would like to see the Victor Pineda's and have Ristic type players to get an opportunity to play.

  • In reply to longoria3:

    That's a really good idea.

  • In reply to cesba:

If the MLS will consider doing that, will they have to change the player substitutions from 3 to 4? How many players are on a EPL roster?

  • In reply to longoria3:

No, they won't change the number of subs.

I believe the new rule in EPL limits the roster size to 25 but they can add other players for competitions such as Champions League, FA Cup, etc.

  • In reply to Adam25:

FYI.....additional 4 matches will not increase season ticket prices next season.

  • In reply to cesba:

I have to admit, I like the direction the Fire FO made to renew 2011 season tickets.

  • In reply to fireman451:

same here. even though it's always tough to decide how many season tickets to buy, the per-seat prices have always been reasonable. and now parking and concessions are more than reasonable, IMO, better than at any other pro sports league (that i know of). it'll certainly make me feel better next year, watching a crappy team but with cheaper hot dogs!

  • In reply to manyou07:

Beats watching crappy baseball on the north and south sides for exorbitant amounts of money.

  • In reply to cesba:

and it also beats watching bad NBA basketball. NBA gets worse every year...it is unwatchable.

  • In reply to cesba:

MLS season in 2011 will start on March 19 and end on October 22.

  • In reply to cesba:

Looks like there will be a few windy and chilly games in the beginning iat. Bridgeview.
Let's hope there will be Fire on the field that will provide some warmth.
