New Soccer Bar - The Pitch

There's always room for another soccer bar in Chicago, this one is called "The Pitch" located at 2142 N. Clybourn.  Fire Technical Director Frank Klopas is one of the partners.

I'll probably be stopping in tonight for the grand opening.  They have a web site with some pretty bare bones info but they do feature a calendar with a schedule of the matches which will be showing at the bar.

Update 8/13 : In attendance last night - Andrew Hauptman, Freddie Ljungberg, Nery Castillo, Marco Pappa, Patrick Nyarko, Calen Carr, Stefan Dimitrov, Andrew Dykstra, Sean Johnson, Gonzalo Segares, Kwame Watson-Siriboe, Krzysztof Krol, Dasan Robinson, Baggio Husidic, Aron Hyde, and Denis Hamlett.

The bar is a very nice place with ample room and it's pretty easy to get to.

Here are a few pics from opening night.......

A familiar font adorns the bar's name and entry.

  • Segares compares Hamlett and De Los Cobos. He's also changed his number to 31 in order to let Sean Johnson keep #25.

You can tell Hamlett was a creative coach..LOL!!!

He should get number 99 or something cool like that. Two 9s just look good on the back of a jersey.

That place looks pretty nice from the pictures.

  • In reply to cesba:

It is......food is pretty good too.

One question for Guillermo: What is Hamlett up to? I thought he was interviewed for the Portland gig, but I haven't kept up.

Second: Does anyone else have serious problems with Ch. 60's signal during soccer games? I flipped it on during both the Rapids/Union game and later for San Luis/Monarcas and it was all choppy--like a bad internet feed.

I remember this happening a while back. WHat the hell is going on?

I have an old school analog TV with Comcast. I unplugged it thinking it was a Comcast problem and put on the over-the-air antenna with the digital converter box and had the same problem.

    Is it just me?

  • In reply to Roti2000:

Hamlett interviewed for the Portland job but obviously didn't get it (John Spencer was officially announced this past week). Hamlett is still looking for employment at the moment.

The choppy feed problem is some sort of technical issue that evidently occurs during the feed transfer to certain carriers. I have no idea why they haven't been able to figure it out but it is very annoying.

  • In reply to cesba:

That is sad; Hamlett's former goalkeeper coach can find a head coaching job in Miami and Hamlett can't get a head coaching gig.

  • In reply to longoria3:

It's probably because he fights with his players too much...

  • 31 is a strange number for him.
