  • In reply to cesba:

    Where is Nery Castillo?

  • In reply to longoria3:

His international transfer certificate was not finalized in time for the game. He did not travel to LA.

  • In reply to cesba:

    Got it!!!

  • In reply to longoria3:

I am sure Castillo and Ljungberg will be starting versus New York. August 3rd, Rafa supposed to be introduced by the Red Bulls and I am sure he will not play the Fire game on August 8th?

  • In reply to longoria3:

That's a good question. I'm guessing it's not likely that Marquez plays next Sunday.

  • In reply to longoria3:

2' - Big save by Johnson on Buddle as the Galaxy almost catch the Fire playing the offside trap too close to goal.

  • In reply to longoria3:

4' - GOAL FIRE!!! Pappa scores on a feed from Husidic as the Galaxy is caught too high playing the offside trap.

  • In reply to longoria3:

5' - GOAL FIRE!!! Collins John scores as the Galaxy defense is caught too high again. Holy Crap!

  • In reply to cesba:

    Great start. Power by John!
I'm glad to see Dykstra out of there. I don't really trust him.

I just discovered this blog. I've been looking for a good place to follow the team. There's a lot I need to keep up with that happens between games

  • In reply to Madvora:

    Welcome Madvora!

  • In reply to Madvora:

3-0. BANNER! And the fans are booing the Galaxy

  • In reply to Madvora:

19' - GOAL FIRE!!! Ricketts makes a big save on Pappa but Mike Banner collects the rebound to make it 3-0 Fire.

    Wow!

  • In reply to cesba:

Fire putting a beatdown on Ricketts

  • In reply to cesba:

The Galaxy have not given up more than 2 goals in one game during MLS play all year. Wow.

  • In reply to cesba:

Collins John trying to set the record for offsides calls. Third one already.

  • In reply to cesba:

Have John been hurt for a lot of the year? I've been wondering why he hasn't been playing.

  • In reply to Madvora:

He had a gastrointestinal issue that kept him out for 7 weeks.

  • In reply to Madvora:

36' - Nyarko backs over Dunivant and gets called for a PK. Donovan converts. 3-1 Fire.

  • In reply to Madvora:

3-1 Fire at half time. The Galaxy has several near miss chances but the Fire took advantage of some huge mistakes early on.

  • In reply to Madvora:

50' - Johnson with a save on Buddle

  • In reply to Madvora:

    Another good save by Johnson.

  • In reply to Madvora:

    58' - Ljungberg for Pappa

  • In reply to Madvora:

Glad we are sitting back and giving LA so much possession...

  • In reply to Madvora:

    65' - Umanzor for Nyarko

  • In reply to Madvora:

I am loving this. Of course it is the one game all year that I could not watch.

  • In reply to Madvora:

66' - Kovalenko with a stubs up tackle attempt on Krol. That's ugly and senseless.

  • In reply to Madvora:

Nice of Arena complaining to grt Krol off the field...

  • In reply to Madvora:

Looks like the Fire are in a 4-4-2 with John and Ljungberg up top. Umanzor at left mid. Banner on right.

  • In reply to cesba:

Looks more like an 8-2...haven't seen the ball anywhere near the LA 16 in 15 minutes.

  • In reply to DerSting:

    lol.....true

  • In reply to DerSting:

Such a good first half and now such a bad second. They're in a complete shell right now. Freddie should have come in for Banner. Banner doesn't know how to play soccer. Now Freddie is just running around defending because of the terrible subs we made in 10 minutes. Johnson looks confident and I think we have found our new keeper.

  • In reply to Rubberbandman189:

I thought Ljungberg for Banner should have been the move too.

  • In reply to cesba:

Freddie for Banner lets Baggio sit back and still leave the counter open with Pappa and Nyarko. Banner doesn't know what to do with the ball. He also doesn't know what to do without the ball. Now he came on and all he did was run around. Logan looked good, Dasan looked good. Conde played well also. Sean Johnson was man of the match, fo sho.

  • In reply to Rubberbandman189:

80'- Krol is called for a handball in the area. That's pretty much a crap call. Donovan scores to make it 3-2.

  • In reply to Rubberbandman189:

Weak assed penalty call, but well deserved for the weak assed second half showing, can't live in a bunker for 40 minutes and expect not to pay for it!

  • In reply to DerSting:

that was terrible...I saw the replay and he fell on his own trying to draw a foul...result: PK goal by Donovan.

  • In reply to Rubberbandman189:

Fire need some possession as LA has controlled for the entire second half.

  • In reply to Rubberbandman189:

84' - Fire get fortunate as Buddle shoots wide

  • In reply to Rubberbandman189:

85' - Johnson with a FANTASTIC save on Gordon's header! Dykstra should probably get comfortable with a seat.

  • In reply to Rubberbandman189:

    Ref is a bozo...

  • In reply to Rubberbandman189:

93' - Yellow on Johnson for time wasting.

  • In reply to cesba:

Second time this season that happened to the Fire (Dykstra vs. New England)

  • In reply to Rubberbandman189:

94' - Johnson called for handball just outside the box but Gonzalez' header is wide

  • In reply to cesba:

Pure inexperience. Letting that go our wastes more time than him grabbing it. Maybe the worst second half we have played all year.

  • In reply to cesba:

DLC needs to be called out for questionable tactics in the second half despite the win. Thankful Johnson played well today otherwise a good attacking first half would have gone to waste.

  • In reply to cesba:

Was that second half more of a poor showing from the fire or the ref? What happened to mcbride?

  • In reply to fire1020:

The Fire played good for 20 minutes in the first half. They then sat with 10 men behind the ball and kicked it as far as they could. Johnson made 2 saves that were the reason we didnt lose. It was just poor defending by LA and we made our 3 chances we had all game.

  • In reply to fire1020:

Had to listen to LA radio to get the game.. no FSC.. bummer.

Yeah.. what's with no McBride? Not even late. Why does Banner keep getting minutes? He looks like he should be at the North Pole with Santa.

    Great win though

  • In reply to Bumsteer:

Throughout the second half, I had to listen to the Fire Spanish broadcast while I was on the road. Where I live, the signal was distorted and the play by play is terrible.

  • In reply to fire1020:

    MCbride on the bench!!!!

  • In reply to TKing:

    McBride=DONE!!

  • In reply to fire1020:

What a surprise ! This is the first home loss for LA this year. A win like this can turn a season around. Red Bulls have never won in Chicago and if that streak can saty alive Sunday , the Fire will be right back in it.

  • In reply to FireStingDoug:

I was shocked that the Galaxy would give up 3 goals in a 16 minute span. Johnson came up big in that match and I hope this game will turn the season around. I don't want to see Dasan Robinson and Mike Banner out there; Dasan is a fill in player and Banner is a guy that comes off the bench. I want to see more Kinney alongside with Krol, Brown and Conde. Their only problem is to play consistent for 90 minutes instead of blown assignments on the defense side of the ball especially with a huge lead. WHAT A SHOCKER: Beckham was watching a AC Milan exhibition match the other day instead of being in Los Angeles.

I always wonder where commentors like FrankFlopas are after victories....

  • In reply to cesba:

    LOL!!!! I miss FrankFlopas.

  • In reply to Rubberbandman189:

Full Time - The Fire escape with a 3-2 win.

  • In reply to cesba:

The Fire can beat New York next Sunday with Castillo and Ljungberg along with Collins John in the same lineup. Also, Johnson will outduel Coundoul behind the net; Coundoul is a reckless goalie that can't be trusted. Even though Henry and Angel on the same field together, they are suspect on defense.

  • In reply to cesba:

    75' - Kinney for Husidic

  • In reply to longoria3:

Did not travel with the team...nevermind. I wonder how come Castillo did not travel but practiced but Ljunberg did and hasn't played in a while and is dressed.

  • In reply to longoria3:

Castillo's international paperwork wasn't finalized in time. Ljungberg has already been playing in the states for 2 seasons.

  • De Los Cobos goes with Sean Johnson in goal and stays with the 4-5-1 to start the match.
Ljungberg is dressed and on the bench.
