Marco Pappa Named to All Star First XI

Marco Pappa has been named to the MLS All Star First XI that will take on Manchester United in Houston on July 28.

The remaining players named are Donovan Ricketts in goal, Chad Marshall, Omar Gonzalez, and Jamison Olave on defense, Dwayne DeRosario, Guillermo Barros Schelotto, Kyle Beckerman, and Javier Morales in midfield with Edson Buddle and Landon Donovan at forward.

The remainder of the squad will be filled out on Monday when All Star coach Bruce Arena adds 10 players supplemented by two additional picks made by Don Garber.

This may not be the actual squad that starts on the field against ManU since all three defenders are center backs.

  • I wonder when they will announce the reserves because guys like Angel and Ferreira should be on that list.

  • Nevermind, Monday they will announce the rest of the players.

  • My ballot included Ricketts, Gonzalez, Opara, Pearce on D. Beckerman, DeRosario, Ferreira, Schelotto, and Pappa in midfield with Buddle and Donovan up front.

  • This guy reportedly has an offer from the Fire.

    Argentine midfielder Miguel Caneo

  • In reply to cesba:

Miguel Caneo played for Quilmes 1st division team with 6 goals in 15 games. I would consider this guy for a trail and he is 26 years old. Also, he played for Boca Juniors for a couple years.

  • In reply to cesba:

I heard that today, too -- very surprising! I was waiting for the cheap joke at the end but it never came. For the record, I know there are a few days along the dial who like the sport very much and usually stick up for it (I think Steve Cochran on 720 is one of them.. just went to SA, actually, and he has Klopas on to talk every once in a while.)

Do you mean Greg Jarrett? He's great.

Here's another Kass-type epiphany. And a child shall lead them!

  • I wonder if Bruce Arena will choose Mcbride. He did coach him in the World Cups.

  • In reply to fire1020:

Yeah right....McBride doesn't deserve no All Star consideration.

  • In reply to longoria3:

Yeah, he only has four this season, but who else has scored two against Manchester United.

  • In reply to fire1020:

Juan Pablo Angel has only nine goals this year along with De Rosario with 8, Saborio with 7 and Wondolowski with 6.

  • In reply to fire1020:

Pappa is a great player for the Fire. He works hard on the field, scores goals, and is just a class act. He is the type of player every team wants.

  • The Score actually mentioned that Pappa made the All Star team during one of their updates this afternoon....small progress ;)
