  • The Fire start out in a 4-5-1 with Collins John as the lone forward. Pappa is on the right, Mapp on the left, Bone is the CAM, with Umanzor and Banner in the central mid supporting roles.

  • From the Washington Post's Steve Goff:
Chicago, which acquired Mexican forward Nery Castillo last week, is on the verge of another signing. Details to come.

  • The Fire have apparently been involved in discussions with several "DP" type players although no names have leaked out at the moment.

  • Freddie Ljungberg's deal with Seattle expires after this season and he's been pouting about his distaste for the contract extension offered by Seattle. This seems to be the root of the problem in Seattle.

Thought's on a possible Ljungberg acquisition?

  • In reply to cesba:

I think Ljungberg would be a good aquisition. He can play as a central att mid which is the position we are lacking in the most. Plus, it can't be bad to start a rivalry with the league's most popular team.

  • 16' Collins John wastes a decent chance with a shot over the crossbar

  • Mapp and Pappa have switched sides. Mapp is on the right and Pappa on the left.

  • The Revolution have defeated Morelia 1-0. Pumas needs to go on a major goal scoring run to stay alive.

  • john is looking very active this game. no results yet but much improved

  • In reply to CountChocula:

Must be the impending competition at forward, lit a fire under his butt.

  • In reply to DerSting:

i can tell the guy wants to score so bad its killing him. and he is getting frustrated

  • In reply to DerSting:

1-0 Fire at half time as Pumas doesn't miss by much on the last kick of the half.

  • In reply to cesba:

gotta admit, i'd like the see the Fire shoot more from range at times. but is anyone besides pappa capable of doing so?

  • In reply to CountChocula:

Bone passed up a couple of opportunities to do so in the the first half.

  • In reply to CountChocula:

    53' Watson-Siriboe in for Ward

  • In reply to CountChocula:

    67' Dimitrov for Mapp

  • In reply to CountChocula:

72' McBride comes on for John

  • In reply to CountChocula:

73' Huge brawl in the stands between Section 8 and Pumas supporters

  • In reply to cesba:

More fun to watch the supporters than the game itself.

  • In reply to cesba:

Would be a nice change of pace to see at least one through ball to a forward to run on to....

  • In reply to DerSting:

through balls were non existent tonight as was the Fire offense after the 60th minute

  • In reply to DerSting:

    Final Score - Fire 1 Pumas 0
Back with the post game press conference in a few......

  • In reply to DerSting:

i can say this much Johnson needs to start. I think Collins will fit better with Nery. Fire play so much better when there is no pressure to win. Good effort tonight.

  • In reply to DerSting:

defense and keeper played well. and they had to in 2nd half. poor midfield possession again. didnt seem to me like they turtled up or anything, but i can't figger out how this team goes from jekyl to hyde like that

was impressed how sean johnson was so decisive in goal. really took charge & looked more at ease than dykstra has

back 4 looked good. ward had one mental blip that i remember, but was otherwise solid. umanzor played surprisingly well at DMid

  • In reply to DerSting:

The Fire did pretty well tonight. John looked a little more active and created some chances, but I still think McBride brings more. Johnson and Bone were both impressive. But the player who was the man of the match for me was Umanzor. He was everywhere as defensive mid and broke up a lot of attacks. I would like to see him start the next game at that position.

  • In reply to fire1020:

Agree on Umanzor. he was surprisingly good. John's touch is awful and I hope they do not have to pay him for more than this year. He was worth a gamble but has clearly not worked out. 1 goal tells the tale and he is not getting assists.

  • In reply to Celt:

John is like a lumbering neandertal out there, at least 7-8 fouls against him for pushing off. He is like an island out there neither getting or providing anyone service.

  • In reply to DerSting:

i actually thought Collins John played fairly well for the most part. sure he did poorly finishing, but he linked up several attacks thru the middle - something we've rarely seen at all this year. also put forth a lot of effort on his own attacks, tho the ref didn't seem appreciate him using his strength to fend off defenders. he also showed some speed one time on the flank he beat his man and put a nice cross into the box, but no one there to recieve it.

sure he had plenty of things he did wrong (couple times he didnt continue his run where a pass might have been made to him for a possible scoring chance) and some poor finishing a few times. but he's been out for nearly two months hasn't he? i think this game was a big improvement and if he can gain some confidence, he may yet prove to be a valuable player up top

  • In reply to CountChocula:

84' Johnson with a nice save and gathers the follow up attempt

  • In reply to cesba:

Up at half, there is something you don't see very often these days...

  • In reply to cesba:

Way to many cheap give sways in front of goal for my taste.

  • In reply to cesba:

yeah they playing like the fire of the past two weeks now in the 2nd half

  • ok but Collins has gotta stop getting pissed when the ball isnt always delivered perfectly....

  • In reply to CountChocula:

    And you wanted Blanco?!

  • GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

  • 35' GOAL FIRE! - Wilman Conde is unmarked in front of the net on a corner kick from Pappa.

  • pappa is really delivering the crosses tonite

i am liking the aggression on the offense so far too
