USA v England

The World Cup is finally here and the huge USA v England match is set for tomorrow at 1:30 pm.  Several watch parties are planned throughout the city, here's a list of the big ones.

The Fire is hosting a watch party with Andrew Dykstra and Kwame Watson-Siriboe in attendance at "Bull & Bear" 431 N. Wells in Chicago's River North area.

The South African Consulate is hosting a party at Montrose Park and another at Daley Plaza.

The Globe Pub has been taking reservations for months and is already booked.

Small Bar on 1415 W. Fullerton in Chicago and Small Bar in Wicker Park on 2049 W. Division are holding watch parties.  ESPN 1000's Carmen DeFalco and Fire Legend Chris Armas will be at the Fullerton location.

Section 8 is sponsoring a party at Galway Bay, 500 W. Diversey in Chicago.

Other soccer friendly bars include: Ginger's Ale House at 3801 N. Ashland and Fado Irish Pub at 100 W. Grand Ave.

Where will you be watching?

  • Lincoln Hall -- the new concert venue on Lincoln just north of Fullerton -- is showing the game on a ginormous HD projection screen. Not a "soccer-friendly bar," per se, but sounds like a cool option. Also, the band playing there that night (The Futureheads) are from Sunderland, I think.

  • Home, HD 51" screen, with some beers on hand.

  • Hosting a fiesta at home. Planning to catch some of the tournament at Quigley's pub in Naperville as well.

  • Does anyone have a sense of the feasibility of swinging by The Globe for one of the early matches this week?

Is it going to be packed, say, for the New Zealand/Slovakia game on Tuesday at 6:30 in the morning?

Any other suggestions for anywhere else from The Globe north to Evanston?!?! I'm thinking checking a game or two this week before work might be fun.

I would think that there will be plenty of room for non US matches but you might want to check what time they open during the week.

    What a match.
