Conde Imposes Contract Deadline?

According to Nick Firchau at mlssoccer, the Fire's negotiations on a contract extension with Wilman Conde have hit a standstill.  Click here to read the entry.

Conde's contract expires after this season but the Fire have been working towards an extension since January.  If the report is true, Conde has imposed a June 1 deadline for a new deal with the club.

  • My advise to Conde...
Don't sign up to any club that pays in Euros. (eg. Greece) I see the value dropping as fast as a prom dress. Maybe Mexico. How much of this drama Gutierrez's fault. Conde is just happy he has IKEA in Bolingbrook.

  • To the Fire FO:

    Sign him!

  • The fact that he is willing to sign a new deal means the FO is doing something right. This guy wanted no part of the team 2 years ago and is now looking for a new deal. 2 or 3 years would be perfect if we can get that. We do have 2 DP spots now so that could be a last resort. Wouldnt mind him being a DP for us.

  • I'd rather have Brad Friedel as a DP. I don't even know if that's possible but it would be great for us (and the league) to have our last 2 World Cup keepers squaring off. He could get out of Birmingham and be close to his academy in Ohio.

You would rather have a high paid 40-yr-old goalkeeper than Conde? wow. Thank god it is Klopas making these decisions.

  • In reply to Celt:

If it's Brad Friedel I would. Brad Guzan is going to Rustenberg and he's Friedel's understudy on a Premier League team that played in a final at Wembley. Keller was a big part of Seattle's success last year and Brad would fit right in (except for his goofy hybrid accent). Conde is amazing but not sure if he warrants DP money.

  • In reply to oliotya:

We have 2 DP's now so why not both. I would imagine he would want to go back to Columbus because he has played there and has the academy there though...

  • On what basis do you think Frank seals this deal by June 1st?

Soumare, Gonzalo, Rolfe, and Busch should be enough of a reason to fear this will be another failure Klopas is going to need to cover up when his front office skills fail yet again.

  • In reply to ChristohperWallace:

Blanco, John, McBride, CJ another year, Pappa, Nyarko, Ward, Husidic, Krol...

Klopas had nothing to do with Soumare leaving. He was leaving at the end of the season anyway so they made money off of him. It was as much Soumare as it was the Fire. Gonzalo and Rolfe wanted to play overseas and it was just a matter of time until they were gone. We still dont really know why Busch was let go. He brought in Blanco, McBride, Nyarko, Pappa, John, Ward, Krol, Husidic and all those players were/are every game starters for us. So go be a troll somewhere else...

  • In reply to Rubberbandman189:

So you think if the Fire made a decent offer to Gonzalo and Rolfe, they still would have gone overseas? Did these guys tell you this personally or do you think playing in the leagues that Danish and Greek leagues they are in are that much better than the MLS?

If you are happy with having Ward and CJ as liabilities on the back line, McBride not having much left in the tank, and Krol and Pappa not doing a thing thus far this season then keeping telling yourself Klopas has done a good job. Sure Blanco was fun to see but he is not getting any younger.

A troll huh, good one. Respond with something worthwhile once you are done being teabagged.

  • In reply to ChristohperWallace:

Rolfe even said himself that they offered him roughly the same kind of deal and he turned it down. If you're asking me if I like having the most skilled team in MLS then the answer is yes. If I like having the most potential in the league than the answer is yes. Blanco is no longer here right? I would definitely not want him back. You fail to mention anything good that he has done. He did get a potential stud in John, drafted Nyarko and Baggio who are now every game starters for us, was in charge when Conde came to us. Made maybe the best trade in our history in trading Barrett for McBride. And yes, you are definitely a troll...

I've got a detailed review of Klopas' moves since taking over as technical director coming up in a future post. Joe's points are valid although FF's comments are always good for a chuckle.
