And this interesting take on the Fire's  designated player possibilities from Soccer America's Ridge Mahoney.

"8. CHICAGO. So far, Coach Carlos de Los Cobos - despite his laudable record with clubs in Mexico - has preferred to import players he coached with El Salvador. And there's no clear indication Fire management is eager to buy up a DP slot to replace Cuauhtemoc Blanco, a factor on the field as well as at the gate. However, another star could increase the team's value in the re-sale market."

  • "Increase the team's value in the re-sale market"? Are the Fire up for sale?

  • In reply to ggorecki:

That comment struck me as very odd.

  • I read Guily from PSG was a potential Fire target. I think he would mesh well with the team and be a decent gate draw.

  • In reply to lijien:

He might be but I'm not sure he can play the central role that the Fire desperately need. PSG will be here in May for the Sister Cities Tournament so we'll find out soon if there is any truth to that rumor.

  • It is good thing for a goalie like Dykstra to have a supporting cast full of veterans like Brown, Conde and Ward. If Dykstra makes a mistake, the veterans I mentioned would let him know. If Dykstra continues to improve as the season goes by, the Fire will succeed. Games like DC United is a confidence booster for him; any young goalkeeper will go through growing pains.
