John: Still in trial period

The Fire is sticking with the party line and telling me that the contract status of on-trial forward Collins John is still up in the air.  The Fire will continue to look at the former Fulham striker until the end of preseason, at which time they will make a decision on whether or not to offer him a contract.   So, we'll just have to wait until the Fire gets back to Chicago before we know if John will be sticking around for 2010.  As of right now, I think he will be.

I'll be back later in the day with a Match of the Week post.

  • ask him about Ramon Morales too.

  • Reading between the lines, I think we can assume that the new CBA would include expanded rosters... that's probably why MLS cancelled the cut deadline, and why the Fire won't commit on John. They've got one of the 'extra slots' budgeted for him, but don't want to show their hand until they must.

  • I wouldn't assume it's just the Fire who are holding their cards, maybe John still isn't sure he wants to play for Chicago.
