John and Fire agree to tentative deal

The latest reports have Dutch striker Collins John and the Fire coming to terms on a tentative agreement. This could put an end to a wild last 24 hours in which John had reportedly ended his trial with the Fire, then hadn't, then was working out a deal, and now -- reportedly -- has agreed to one. John has all the skills necessary to be a dominant force in MLS and -- if he indeed has signed -- the Fire should be given a big, big boost in 2010 by his presence.

I'm working on confirming this report as I type this. As soon as I get an update, I'll post and let you all know. Until then...

UPDATE -- Goff's report seems to be true based on sources that I've spoken to. No one would discuss the length (2 years maybe? That is what John wanted...) or financial aspects of the deal.

  • If you can, it would also be great to know the length of the contract, the ballpark size, and any special terms.

OMG. I cannot believe it!! Finally, a big signing that could tear other teams to pieces. Hopefully this CBA business gets sorted out so we can see him this coming season!!

Does he have his union dues paid up? If not, he may not be able to draw from the strike fund.
