Not really too much of a surprise here, but the Fire just announced that forward Collins John has officially signed with the team. The signing puts an end to a whirlwind last few days for John -- who was reportedly leaving for Europe on Wednesday, before changing his mind and resuming his training with the Fire, only to sign a deal today.
You all know the background details on John (if you don't, you can check out my profile of him here) so I'll spare you the rest of the press release info and get straight to the quote.
"We are very excited to have Collins join the Chicago Fire," said Fire Technical Director Frank Klopas. "Collins is a talented player and he will be a great addition to the club. He is a quick and powerful forward with a nose for goal and we believe he will be a good fit to the attacking style we will play this season."
Per league policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
As I've said before, I think this is a great move for the Fire. John and fellow forward -- and ex-Fulham teammate -- Brian McBride should be one of the most potent forward duos in the league this year. It'll be exciting to see them in action (barring a strike of course...) at Toyota Park in a few weeks.
I'll be back with a Match of the Week post in a few hours. Until then...
