*Would have posted this last night, but the website was undergoing some technical difficulties.*
The Fire played MLS foe the Houston Dynamo to a 1-1 draw Thursday night in the club's second-to-last game before they (hopefully...) kick off the season against the New York Red Bulls on March 27th.
Houston got on the board first when -- in the 64th minute -- forward Cam Weaver headed a Luis Angel Landin cross past Andrew Dykstra to give the Dynamo the lead. Marco Pappa answered for the Fire in the 71st, when he collected a Wilman Conde pass at the edge of the box and drove a shot home. Pappa had a chance to double his tally -- and give the Fire the lead -- just three minutes later when the referee whistled for a penalty after Patrick Nyarko was pulled down in the box. But Pappa saw his spot kick saved by Houston keeper Pat Onstad, who dove to his right to keep the score level.
The Fire will play the University of Notre Dame on March 20th at 10 a.m. at the Toyota Park practice field. The match will be the team's final preseason tune-up.
Here are the lineups:
Chicago Fire: Andrew Dykstra; Deris Umanzor, CJ Brown, Wilman Conde, Tim Ward; Marco Pappa (Justin Mapp, 87'), Peter Lowry, Baggio Husidic (Logan Pause, 46'), Julio Martinez (Collins John, 46'); Brian McBride (Mike Banner, 69'), Patrick Nyarko
Houston Dynamo: Pat Onstad; Mike Chabala, Bobby Boswell, Eddie Robinson, Ryan Cochrane (Craig Waibel, 65'); Corey Ashe (Francisco Navas Cobo, 81'), Lovel Palmer, Geoff Cameron (Richard Mulrooney, 83'), Brian Mullan (Danny Cruz, 66'); Dominic Oduro (Luis Angel Landin, 61'), Cam Weaver
Also of note, Marco Pappa was ejected from the match. He received two yellow cards, one in the 70th and one in the 85th.
I'll be back Friday morning with more coverage of the Fire. Be sure to stay tuned.
