Fire waive Woolard and Washington - Trim roster to 28

Daniel Woolard

The Fire announced today that they have waived defenders Daniel Woolard and Austin Washington. Washington -- whom the Fire drafted in the fourth round of the 2008 MLS SuperDraft -- and Woolard -- who was drafted in the fourth round of the 2007 SuperDraft -- combined to make eight starts in 2009.

Here's Klopas's quote, per the press release: "We would like to thank Austin and Daniel for their contributions to the Chicago Fire and wish them both the best of luck in their future endeavors."

**Update:** Just received word that the roster has been trimmed down from 36 to 28. Trialists Mark Blades, Izzy Iriekpen, Jovan Bubonja, Pedro de la Rosa and Aremis Mercades were among those who were cut. The four trialists who made the cut are Collins John, O'Brian Woodbine, Jamie Cuesta and Joao Baptista.

  • Does this mean that they don't need to cut Dimitrov? Or is it an obvious prelude to a new signing?

  • Hopefully this means that Collins John has been locked down.

  • I kind of thought Woolard had potential. Ouh well...

  • Woolard is so much better than Carr ever will be. Woolard has the ability to play center back, outside back, left mid. He should not have been cut. Thats too bad...

  • Washington was FINALLY cut... wow about time
