Fire to face Chivas Guadalajara in friendly on Thursday

The Fire announced this afternoon that they will take on Mexican-club Chivas de Guadalajara in a closed-door friendly Thursday afternoon at 12:30 p.m. The Fire, who began their two-week stay in Mexico with training today, will play a second exhibition in Mexico on March 3rd. The opponent for the second match has yet to be determined.

Remaining stateside for the Fire are goalkeeper Andrew Dykstra and midfielders Corben Bone and Joao Baptista. Bone, the Fire's first round pick in the 2010 draft, suffered a bone bruise in his right knee in last week's friendly against the Vancouver Whitecaps. He is undergoing physical therapy in Chicago and his progress will be monitored on a day-to-day basis. Dykstra has left rotator cuff tendinitis and is also remaining in Chicago for physical therapy. He is expected to return to training shortly. Baptista had issues with his visa and will stay in Boston before meeting the team in Jackson MS for the third -- and final -- phase of the Fire's preseason training.

  • Let's sign Collins John before Chivas or some other Mexican team see him in action and make an offer. He is free to any team and a 24-yr-old Dutch international for free would be tempting for many clubs.

  • In reply to Celt:

You don't have to worry about Chivas or any Mexican team making an offer for him. Chivas only allows Mexican players on their team and as for the rest of the Mexican teams; well it's past the deadline to sign on new players. So no worries! ;-)

  • Are the Fire playing the 1st team or reserves?

  • In reply to Adam25:

I would guess the lineup will feature a mix of both. But we'll just have to wait and see on that one.
