Fire kicks off preseason schedule with two games today

Yes, I know it's only preseason. And yes, I know the Vancouver Whitecaps and Arizona Sahauros won't exactly offer the highest level of competition. But no matter the competition (or lack thereof...) and time of year of the game, I always feel a little excitement when the first match of the year rolls around.

So, it naturally follows that I'm a little pumped up for the Fire's doubleheader today. The games -- which kick off at 3 p.m. (Vancouver Whitecaps) and 5:30 p.m. (Arizona Sahauros) central time -- offer a fresh start for returning players, a first opportunity for rookies and newcomers, and a trial by fire (no pun intended) for new head coach Carlos de los Cobos. It should be an interesting test for everyone involved and -- though the games won't be broadcast anywhere -- the Fire's official twitter feed ([@chifiresoccer](http://twitter.com/CHIFIRESOCCER)) will be providing live updates throughout both matches. I'm hoping to supplement the twitter feed with some live, on-the-ground reporting done by a friend of mine within the Fire front office, so stay tuned for that.

Otherwise, enjoy your Monday. Or at least try to. At the very least, we all have some Fire games to look forward to.

  • The Vancouver Whitecaps should actually be a decent challenge, they;re a professional team. I'm more curious to see the starting lineups.
