Sunday's games: A tale of how the mighty have fallen.
Ok, ok, that's a bit over dramatic (and ridiculously cliche). So sue me.
But consider some of today's high profile European matches and you might see the point I'm trying to get at.
Consider for instance, the Liverpool-Arsenal match (10 a.m CDT, FSC/FSE). We have two of the EPL's perennial 'big four' squads facing off, only both of them have been disappointing all year long and find themselves in seventh and fourth place, respectively.
We get no farther when we turn our gazes to Spain, where Atletico Madrid and Villareal meet up in a match of two of the planet's most disappointing sides (12 p.m. GolTV). After finishing fourth and fifth in the 2008-09 edition of La Liga, Atletico and Villareal are wallowing in mid table; sitting in 11th and 13th.
All four sides will be hoping today will be the turning points of their 09-10 campaigns as they look to salvage what they can from this year. Regardless of what happens, it should make for an entertaining day of soccer.
So sit back, relax, and enjoy the day. And check out a wild goal after the jump. It won't leave you disappointed -- I promise...
