The Fire and Marco Pappa have come to terms on a new deal to keep the 21-year-old winger at Toyota Park through 2012.
Pappa, who had been on loan to the Fire from Guatemalan team CSD Municipal, had his league option exercised and will join a growing group of out-of-contract players returning to Bridgeview for the 2010 season.
"We are very excited to have such a young talent like Marco Pappa back with our club next season," said Fire Technical Director Frank Klopas. "He was a big contributor to the team in 2009 and has tremendous potential moving forward. He brings a lot of passion to the game and we look forward to having him remain with the Fire over the coming years." Pappa is also excited about returning to the Fire, which he joined in July of 2008.
"I'm very happy about returning to the Fire," said Pappa. "This is a club that I want to build my future with and I want our fans to know that I'm going to give all my efforts in helping our team be successful and win the MLS Cup."
I think Frank Klopas and the Fire front office is making another good player decision by bringing Pappa back. Though he tailed off a bit at the end of last year, Pappa enjoyed a solid campaign and there's no reason to think that he won't expand upon his five goal, four assist 2009.
