Morning Links

I'll be talking with Fire Technical Director Frank Klopas later on this morning and posting a story about the remainder of the Fire's offseason after the interview.  Until then I'll leave you with a couple of MLS/USA related links.

The Red Bulls officially named Norwegian Erik Soler as their new General Manager and Sporting Director yesterday.  Soler will have his hands full in trying to turn around New York, who finished dead last in the league in 2009.  He discussed his plans for attacking the numerous challenges he faces in a press conference yesterday.

Jack Bell of The New York Times Goal Blog did a nice piece on the English's perspective on getting placed with the U.S. in Group C of next year's World Cup.  You can check out the piece here.

I'll be back in a few hours.  Enjoy the rest of your morning.

  • Hey Sam,
I was wondering if you could ask Frank's thoughts on players that they are looking at for next season.
As a friend of someone who knows James Sinclair, are the fire still interested in him. My friend told me last month he was training with a Norwegian premier league side when he got a message stating the fire's interest in him.

    Sure thing.

    Thanks Sam,

I know this has been said before, but what's the time frame they are shooting for, for getting a new coach?

  • In reply to SamuelStejskal:

hey sam did you manage get any info out of Frank?

  • In reply to MythosFC:

I did in fact. Here's what Frank had to say about Sinclair:

"I brought James in and unfortunately... he came in, he was healthy and he trained for one day and kind of pulled his hamstring. He went back [to England] and he was going to come back and train with us a month later but then he hurt his hamstring again and by that time the signing period was over and there was nothing we could do. But I think we're looking maybe to bring him with us in the preseason and give him an opportunity from the beginning [this year].

  • In reply to SamuelStejskal:

Thanks so he didn't mention that they offered him a contract before the September 15th deadline where they signed Myrie instead, and then not get back in touch with him.
However my friend told me over the weekend that he is undergoing contract negotiations in Norway.

  • In reply to MythosFC:

There was no mention of that.

Thanks again for asking, i know i was upset about what happened, let alone how he must have felt, he had been looking forward to play in Chicago.
Also any word on the DP position, any names they are considering, and how much of a consideration does the nationality of the player come into factor?
