Salt Lake pulls the shocker -- Defeats Crew in first round

Pablo Campos, Yura Movsisyan

Real Salt Lake finished off a huge first round upset tonight, [defeating the Columbus Crew 3-2 at Crew Stadium to win their Eastern Conference Semifinal series 4-2 on aggregate](

Real Salt Lake got behind the 8-ball early in the game, surrendering two first half goals to fall behind the Crew 3-2 on aggregate. But Salt Lake stormed back, scoring three unanswered on the defending champions (and Supporter's Shield winners) to shock the league and take the series.

Real Salt Lake will now take on the winner of the Fire-New England series in the Eastern Conference Final. As the East's fourth seed, Salt Lake will be the road team for the Eastern Conference Final, meaning that if the Fire pull out the series win this weekend they will have one more home game in 2009.

Now, I know that the Fire still has a lot of work to do before they start worrying about possible Eastern Conference Final opponents, but how excited/shocked are you that RSL pulled this off? Let's hear it below...

  • I thought the Crew were good at defending, shows how much hearth Salt Lake have. Maybe its because of CONCAF last year they didn't have to deal with all that. I'll be at the game Saturday hopefully the Fire will have a good enought game to try will this and conference final a home would be awesome.

  • It's a warning to the Fire. Come out ready to score on Saturday, or you will go home.

  • In reply to Byron:

    Don't you mean stay home?

  • In reply to Byron:

go/stay... the point is the season will be over if we lose (the most insightful comment of my internet career). So if you're BMB, you're staying home. If you Temoc Blanco, you're going home. Regardless, let's win.

  • In reply to Byron:

hell yeah! (and sorry for nitpicking!)
