Morning Notes: US-Costa Rica Tomorrow Night, Win National Team Gear

US Men's National Team Starting Eleven

The U.S. National Team is set to take on Costa Rica tomorrow night in both sides' last World Cup Qualifying match. The American team qualified for the Cup with their 3-2 win over Honduras last Saturday and they'll be looking to finish qualification strong with a win over Costa Rica, who currently sit in the group's third and final qualification spot.

Despite having already secured their World Cup berth, I expect the U.S. team to come out and fight tomorrow night at RFK Stadium. I think Head Coach Bob Bradley will want to give the Costa Ricans a run for their money tomorrow night and I think he'll feel compelled to play something that resembles his normal starting 11 at D.C.'s RFK Stadium. Regardless of who Bradley runs out onto the field though, the match certainly won't be lacking in intensity. Costa Rica is only two points ahead of fourth place Honduras (who play at fifth place El Salvador tomorrow night) and three points from this match would ensure their qualification to South Africa.

My prediction for tomorrow night's match (which will air at 7 p.m. on ESPN2) is a 1-1 draw. I think the Costa Ricans will come out with a ton of intensity and net an early goal but I think the U.S. will bounce back on their home turf and score a second half equalizer through Landon Donovan.

With the U.S. having just qualified for the World Cup, some of you may be looking to get your hands on some merchandise before the Cup kicks off next June. Well, don't go out and buy anything just yet because Fire Confidential is teaming up with SoccerPro.com to hook you up.

You'll have a chance to win $200 of [United States soccer apparel](http://www.soccerpro.com/United-States-c116/) during the U.S-Costa Rica game tomorrow night -- all you have to do is predict which minute the first goal will be scored in. Should you be the lucky winner, you'll have the opportunity to choose from several options of shirts/jerseys to wear during the next Nats game.

Here's how the contest will work: all you have to do is post in the comments section what minute you think the match's first goal will be scored in and if you are the closest entrant you win. So, be sure to comment below with your prediction

Also, in the ongoing effort to increase Fire Confidential's transparency, I wanted to let you guys know that I am not accepting anything from SoccerPro.com as part of the deal. This contest is strictly for you the reader and I won't be netting any personal benefit from it.

Along with supplying U.S. National team gear, SoccerPro.com has a nice selection of [soccer t-shirts](http://www.soccerpro.com/Soccer-Shirts-c37/) and [jerseys](http://www.soccerpro.com/Licensed-Soccer-Jerseys-and-Gear-c3/) to choose from so definitely check the site out.

Comment below with your prediction of what minute the match's first goal will be scored in for a chance to win. Again, closest to the actual time the goal is scored wins. You'll have to email me to claim your prize/work out the logistics of shipping, etc but I'll have more on that once the actual winner is decided. One more thing, should the match end in a scoreless tie there will not be a winner -- rather I'll just hold the contest at a different time.

I'll be back with another post this afternoon so stay tuned for that. Good luck to everyone in the contest -- let's hear your predictions below.

  • I'll go with the 17th minute

  • I'm thinking a 34th minute goal. What's the word on Jay Demerit's eye injury? Is this going to keep him out of league play for an extended period?

  • In reply to patrickgeiger:

Apparently DeMerit is considering having surgery on his eye. Not good news for him or the National team.

Really sad, especially for the victim and her family. Davies is out of course, "possibly career ending". Ugh.
