As I'm sure most of you now know, U.S. National Team forward [Charlie Davies is in serious but stable condition after surviving a one car accident](http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=685080&sec=us&cc=5901) in which another person was killed.
Davies underwent five hours of surgery Tuesday to repair a lacerated bladder, fractured femur, fractured tibia, left elbow fracture and facial fractures. The 23-year-old forward, who established himself as the U.S.'s top striker this year, will remain in the hospital for at least another week and undergo several more surgeries. The crash claimed the life of 22-year-old Ashley Roberta who, along with Davies, was a passenger in the vehicle.
The severity and number of Davies's injuries make it unlikely that he will be able to play in next year's World Cup, which the U.S. team just qualified for this past Saturday.
If you are interested, photos of the car have been posted [here](http://www.nbcwashington.com/news/local-beat/One-Dead-Road-Blocked-in-GW-Parkway-Accident-64073357.html). You'll have to scroll down a bit to view them, but they show just how horrific the accident was and how lucky Davies and the other survivor are to be alive.
My thoughts go out to the victims and their families. There is no doubt that the accident was absolutely horrific and I think I speak for everyone here when I wish for Davies and the other survivor (who wasn't named) to make full recoveries.
