Matchday 10/17: Fire vs. Revolution

Hey everyone, we're 20 minutes from game time and it should be a good one at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough Mass.  I'll be sharing all of my thoughts/observations in the comments section of this post -- and I encourage you to do the same.

Also, if you're interested in meeting a Fire player/getting a look at FIFA 10 (which comes out on Tuesday) the Fire is hosting a FIFA 10 tournament at the Best Buy Hancock center in downtown Chicago on Monday.  Cuauhtemoc Blanco (who's on the cover of the video game) will be there and signing autographs as well. I'll likely do a full post on this tomorrow afternoon to serve as further reminder but until then this will have to suffice.

Enjoy the game.

    MID: Rolfe, Pause, Husidic, Pappa
    FWD: McBride, Nyarko

Bench: Dykstra, Mapp, Carr, Blanco, Woolard, Lowry, Washington

    Revolution:

    MID: Nyassi, Larentowicz, Joseph, Mansally
    FWD: Jankauskas, Dube

Bench: Igwe, Colaluca, Knighton, Thompson, Phelan, Tierney, Castro

Also, I am currently unable to find a feed of the game. Thought it would be on MLSnet.com's match center but it's not so I'm currently unable to watch.

  • Myrie not even on the bench is he injured or still not deemed good enough?

  • In reply to MythosFC:

Obviously, someone feels like he isn't ready yet. He's a very young kid with a lot to learn so I don't know why you would expect even DH to put him on a roster with a playoff position at risk. This is not the time to put a totally inexperienced player in the mix.

  • In reply to Toby:

but not even on the bench? i don't get why sign the player if he won't feature at all, might as well have just kept that 1 roster spot open.

  • In reply to MythosFC:

He has two experienced defenders on the bench. I think Myrie was brought in not to play this year but to be developed for next year when we might lose some key defenders. I doubt that they planned on him getting much field time, if any, this year.

  • In reply to Toby:

Understandable. Have you seen him play or train or anything wonder what he's like as a player.

  • In reply to MythosFC:

No--I have no idea what he looks like on the field.

  • In reply to MythosFC:

It's gone final in New England and the Fire and the Revs played to a scoreless tie. The Fire now has to wait until next Thursday's game at Chivas for their next chance at qualifying for the playoffs. I'll try and post a full match report later but it will be lacking in analysis -- as I was only able to watch 15 minutes of the game (my apologies in advance).

Check back later for the full match report and enjoy the rest of your Saturday night.

  • In reply to MythosFC:

Husidic starting in place of Lowry? Carr subbed in for Rolfe? Woolard subbed in for Nyarko in extra time? Another draw? Going down to the last game of the season to qualify for the playoffs? Fielding a starting 11 that presented no danger of possesion in the midfield?

If anyone out there still thinks Denis Hamlett knows what he's doing I'd love to hear why.

  • In reply to MythosFC:

forgot to mention, another golden opportunity wasted by Pappa because he has no right foot.

  • In reply to MythosFC:

The ref needs to check with the other officials. That was a flippin PK. Someone needs to say somethin'. Blind Refs!

  • In reply to MythosFC:

I've seen him train, he looks average

  • In reply to patrickhattrick:

So we signed an average player haha

  • Thanks but unfortunately I don't get FSC where I am..

  • Thats Fox Soccer Channel Janjo.
