MLS just announced that Game 1 of the Fire-Revolution Eastern Conference Semifinal series at Gillette Stadium has been moved from Saturday, October 31st at 3 p.m. to Sunday, November 1st at 1 p.m. The match will still be televised on Fox Soccer Channel and the time/date for Game 2 -- Saturday, November 7th at 7:30 p.m. -- has not been changed.
According to a source at the Fire, the move was made because FSC had an opening in their schedule on Sunday and switching the game to the new slot worked out best for all parties. The move certainly isn't a bad thing for the Fire -- which now get an extra day of preparation and recovery ahead of the series opener.
All the same, this is a pretty unprofessional move by the league. Assuming that FSC knew about the hole in their schedule before this evening, there is no reason that the game should have originally been scheduled for Saturday. Hopefully this doesn't cause any travel related problems for fans that had planned on heading to the game from Chicago/other locales but MLS should try and figure stuff like this out before four days prior to the match.
