Ward to have surgery: Will miss 8 weeks

SuperLiga 2009 Final Tigres UANL v Chicago Fire

Fire defender Tim Ward, who hasn't played since he broke a toe on his left foot way back in the SuperLiga final against Tigres, will undergo surgery today to fully repair the injury. Apparently, Ward's recovery from the injury wasn't going as well as the Fire would have liked and they decided on Saturday that it would be best for Ward to go in for an operation.

Ward said the surgery will keep him out for 8 more weeks, meaning he should return in time for the Fire's final regular season game on October 22nd against Chivas USA.

The news isn't all bad for the Fire though as (despite what I heard after Wednesday night's game) defender Gonzalo Segares said that it looks like he'll be back in about 2 weeks.

My take on Ward missing even more time? Frankly, it sucks. The Fire really need Ward to come back in time for the playoffs fully match fit and -- given his late return -- it doesn't look like that will happen. I'm guessing Brandon Prideaux will fill in for Ward while he's out, though Austin Washington will likely get some minutes as well.

  • Not good at all... I think Ward is the signing of the season by any team this year and we need him right now.
