Osorio Resigns as Head Coach of RBNY

Chicago Fire v New York Red Bulls

Juan Carlos Osorio resigned his position as Head Coach of the New York Red Bulls today. Osorio coached the Fire for the second half of 2007, leading the team to a playoff spot before resigning to become head man in New York.

Osorio, who was told earlier this week that he would be fired at the end of the season, led the Red Bulls to a MLS Cup appearance in 2008 but was unable to recreate any of last season's success in 2009 and the Red Bulls are actually on track to finish the season with MLS's worst all-time record.

This move was definitely a long time coming as the Red Bulls are a total mess. I'm interested to hear what you guys think about Osorio, as I'm sure some of you aren't exactly his biggest fan...

  • Osorio's dress wearing decision to leave the Fire in favor of the Red Bulls has to go down as one of the dumbest decisions made by an MLS coach in the history of the league.

No matter how incredibly dumb that was, I doubt that Osorio would have been dumb enough to instigate a fight with one of his players at halftime of a game and then try to start the fight again after it was broken up.

    JCO got what he deserved.

  • I love how a certain coach is being accused of instigating when there's no proof of that fact.

    /sarcasm

Anyway, I liked JCO when he first came to the Fire but in retrospect his time here was probably more a result of Blanco joining the team and Rolfe coming back from injury. His insistence on playing Wanchope singlehandedly cost us the ECF that year.

Thanks JCO for bringing us Conde, but there's no love lost.

  • He should of stayed with Fire but I glad he went away and now he leaves NYC go for them. They should get Kurt ex coach of Wizards, I think he would be a good fit for them. MLS doesn't have very tatical play and he's all about the tactics where you know NYC just like to push the ball to the front and let Angel take of the rest... Did assistant coach resign too? Both were going to get fired...

  • In reply to Adam25:

or Jeff Agoos their TD did he go too?

  • In reply to Adam25:

The assistant coach, Richie Williams, took over for Osorio as interim Head Coach. Agoos is still with the team though.

  • In reply to Adam25:

JCO got what he deserves. I totally agree that the move to NY was laughably stupid, and New York is going to be the worst team MLS will see 4 a long time

  • In reply to Adam25:

coach osorio did what he thought would be best for his family, not so good for his career tho. where will he end up sam? or does he have enough money to just retire

  • In reply to bert:

I'm not sure about Osorio's financial situation, but I wouldn't be surprised if he caught on with another MLS team in the not too distant future. If he doesn't want to stay in the states, he may go back to Europe (he was there from 01-06) as an assistant coach.
