Matchday: 8-29

There's a full slate of soccer action going on today, with the European leagues in full swing and MLS in the home stretch.  Some big matches today (apart from the Fire-DC tilt...) include Manchester United-Arsenal (which kicked an hour ago...), AC Milan-Inter Milan (1:45 on FSC), and Chivas USA-Galaxy (10 on ESPN2).

Click here for a full schedule of today's games.

I'll be posting the starting lineups to the Fire-DC game in this thread, so check back for that later on tonight.

Should be interesting to see how the Fire does with a 3 man back line...

  • In reply to SamuelStejskal:

Scratch that, Mike Banner is playing left back, not left midfielder.

    Halftime --

Fire go into the break down 1-0. Bryan Namoff netted the lone goal in the 11th, flicking a fantastic free kick from Christian Gomez into the back of the net. The Fire looked ok in the attack, but need to be a little more precise with their finishing touch.

Also, the team is having some serious trouble getting the ball from the back four up the field. At one point it looked like CJ, Banner, Prideaux and Washington were gonna knock it around amongst themselves for 10 minutes...

  • In reply to SamuelStejskal:

How many fouls by DC? 40?

  • In reply to SamuelStejskal:

Also, terrible free kick by Blanco. He should at least put that on goal every time.

  • In reply to SamuelStejskal:

    67th --

With fullback Brandon Prideaux going off for midfielder Justin Mapp, the Fire has switched to a 3 man back line.
