Matchday: 8-23

Hey everybody, I'm getting settled in at the Toyota Park press box ahead of tonight's match so it's really way past time that this post went up.

I'll be posting some info in the comments section as we go along here so look for that.  And as always, feel free to share any thoughts you have on the match in the comments section below.

  • Well, all of our well-wishing and worries aside, defender Bakary Soumare is still with the Fire.

Denis Hamlett said he didn't know anything (or maybe he's just saying that...) about a possible transfer of Soumare to Boulogne so -- for now -- I'll operate under the principle that he's still with the team until a deal goes official.

  • The starting lineups have been announced here at TP. Here they are...

    Fire --

    ----------------------Busch------------------------

    Washington------Brown------Robinson--------Prideaux

    Pappa----------Pause-------Lowry--------------Rolfe

    -----------------Blanco--------Dimitrov------------

Bench: Dykstra, Banner, Carr, Husidic, Mapp, Nyarko

Conde is out tonight with another occurrence of that right hamstring injury. Nyarko is starting on the bench due to some fatigue from the previous run of games.

    Rapids --

    --------------------Pickens-------------------

    Kimura-------Gibbs----------Palguta------Harvey

    Smith-------LaBrocca------Mastroeni----Peterson

    ------------------Casey------Cummings----------

  • of course he'll play, take advantage of the talent while you have it...dont raycroft look like phil collins?

  • kits?

  • In reply to bert:

I believe they will be in the reds tonight. Colorado will be in light blue.

  • In reply to bert:

    what's wrong w/segares and thorrington?

  • In reply to bert:

and ward and woolard? what's their injury status? so many injuries.

  • In reply to bert:

    Drew:

Thorrington is suspended for today's match due to yellow card accumluation. Segares has a sprained MCL and will likely be out 6 more weeks. Ward has a broken metatarsal and will probably be out for 3-4 more weeks. And Woolard has a sprained ankle, not sure when he'll be back but I did see him in the locker room and he looked to be moving around pretty well.

  • In reply to bert:

that was your run away cummings

  • In reply to bert:

dimitrov bricked that nice pass from lowry. weak

  • In reply to bert:

since i gave him a hard time earlier, great chest pass by dimitrov to give rolfe an excellent chance

  • In reply to bert:

    wow......need some subs......

  • In reply to bert:

    Halftime: Fire 0 - Rapids 0

Both teams played the first half pretty close to the chest and as a result, neither team really created too many clear cut chances. Hopefully the game opens up a bit in the second and the Fire start to play with a bit more attacking bite.

Also, wouldn't be surprised to see C.J. Brown subbed out. He picked up what appeared to be a rib injury in the 8th minute and hasn't been 100% since, limping a little and holding his ribs throughout the first half. Should he be subbed off, expect Brandon Prideaux or Austin Washington to slide into the middle and Mike Banner to fill in at fullback.

  • In reply to SamuelStejskal:

Oh and by the way, no shots on goal for the Fire in the first half. That's 135 minutes and counting since they last put a shot on net...

  • In reply to SamuelStejskal:

No changes for the Fire to start the second half. The Rapids took out defender Scott Palguta and replaced him with Ugo Ihemelu.

  • In reply to SamuelStejskal:

    48th --

GOAL RAPIDS --- Omar Cummings pounces on the rebound of Jamie Smith's blast and slots it home.

  • In reply to SamuelStejskal:

    58th --

GOAL RAPIDS -- Omar Cummings with a great left footed strike from 20 yards into the upper 90. Very, very good shot. 2-0 Colorado.

  • In reply to SamuelStejskal:

    72nd --

GOAL FIRE -- Cuahtemoc Blanco converts a penalty kick, beating a diving Matt Pickens to the left. Well taken, and a deserved PK.

  • In reply to SamuelStejskal:

cummings 2nd goal was a beauty. nice comeback so far, let's get a 3rd!

  • In reply to SamuelStejskal:

holy ****! what an awesome 2nd half! fire put on a barrage of shots and chances, and finally pull it off! wow!

  • In reply to SamuelStejskal:

    Full time --

Fire pull off the ridiculous comeback. Defeating the Rapids 3-2 after courtesy of a Cuauhtemoc Blanco PK, a Mike Banner stunner, and a Dasan Robinson header. Seriously unbelievable finish to this one. I'll have a full match report up later, but until then, well, until then just revel in the joy of this one.

  • In reply to SamuelStejskal:

Soumare was sitting in the stands with Diego Gutierrez. Woolard, Ward, and Thorrington were also sitting nearby.

Soumare was getting hugs and apparent well wishes from CJ's wife, Diego's wife, and some of the other people with Thor.

If Hamlett says he knows nothing about it, he is a bad liar.

  • In reply to SamuelStejskal:

I was at the game thinking here we go again...was I stun after the final whisle...Good job Fire. Somebody set a fire under their a$$ the after Temo PK...
